Gorge Wind Forecast

Hi friends! Another chance at westerlies is in the cards today. After this: east wind or bust! Next chance of westerlies is far in the future – the middle of next week – as the overall weather pattern (maybe) changes and becomes more active.

For today, Wednesday, we have a weak front swinging through. Early pressures were 30.02/29.98/29.96 for gradients of 0.04 and 0.02. Models suggest low clouds will push all the way to Rowena today, which means the steadiest wind will be to the east of there. That said, models also take westerlies to gusty 17-20 from Stevenson to Mosier by early afternoon. Between Lyle and Rowena, we’ll have gusty 20-23 this afternoon. East of there, from Avery to Arlington, gusty 23-26 (remembering that those sensors read high, and 23-26 there is like 17-20 at Swell). River flow over the last 24 hours was 62-77kcfs, river temp is 65.30F, and high temp forecast is 67F under cloudy sky.

High pressure rebuilds on Thursday, and that turns the wind right round (like a record baby right round round round). Tomorrow’s start will be slow. Don’t worry! Easterlies quickly rise to 25ish near both Iwash (Rooster) and Stevenson with 20ish near Viento. As usual, the wind will fade in the afternoon as the temp gradient decreases. Come late afternoon, Iwash will be 15-20, Stevenson 15, and Viento 10ish. High temp: 67F with a few high clouds aloft.

Friday brings another round of east wind as a low zips down the coast and keeps the flow turned offshore. The day starts with 25ish at Iwash, 20ish at Stevenson, and 15-20ish at Viento. Expect a few hours of this in the morning prior to the standard easterly fade. The day finishes with 15ish at Iwash, 10-15 at Stevenson, and 10ish at Viento. High temp: 69F under clouds in the morning and partly high overcast sky in the afternoon.

Extended: as of this morning, models have us with light westerlies on Saturday. For Sunday, they’re calling for light/variable wind. If you recollect yesterday’s forecast, you’ll notice some differences. There’s still some uncertainty about the weekend. Deeper into next week, models are giving hints for more active weather. That’ll give us a chance for some west wind. Fingers crossed. Have a great day!
