Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Lighter wind is the story for Wednesday as high pressure takes a brief stand over the Northwest. Clouds and rain move in on Thursday and set up a moderately strong and gusty eastern Gorge windsport day on Thursday. High pressure stats to take hold on Friday and lasts through the holiday weekend; this brings easterlies and hot weather Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday’s the break between weather systems. High pressure pushes inland from the coast and knocks down the gradients. It will also burn off the clouds by the afternoon. For wind, you’ll find 10-13 from Viento to Swell this morning with 5-10 pretty much everywhere else. Models suggest that’s about it for today; 10-13 max from Stevenson to The Dalles with light wind out east. River flow is 192kcfs, river temp is 55F, and high temp forecast is 74F.

Thursday brings a completely different picture thanks to a cold front and low pressure trough. High temps drop about 10-15F, and rain falls west of The Dalles on and off all day. Morning wind will be light to calm in the western Gorge with 12-15 from Avery to Boardman. As the front moves through, the eastern Gorge picks up; you’ll find gusty 25-29 there from about 10am on through the evening. Western Gorge westerlies hold at 10-13 or less thanks to continued rain and clouds. High temp: 61F.

That front exits eastward Friday and leaves us with 8-11 all through the Gorge to start the day. High pressure seizes the day and builds inland. Midday wind will be 5-10 in the west and 10-13 from Mosier to Boardman. Westerlies respond to the setup in the afternoon by going calm in the eastern Gorge. It appears we could touch 14-17 from Stevenson to Rufus in the afternoon. High temp: 67F.

Hotter weather sets up for the weekend along with a two or three day stretch of easterlies. In even sadder news, the Canadian border closure has been extended through June 21st, making Canadian Wind Johnnies the latest victim of the USA’s poor management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Coast, Jones, Sauvie’s
