Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished
The next big system is forecast to arrive late Sunday. NWS’ area forecast discussion this morning talks about potential pass-level snow. In looking at the models, I’m going to have to disagree with that assessment.
As of this morning, models predict this very wet weather system stalling over OR/WA late Sunday through early Tuesday. This system will tap into subtropical moisture. Lots of warm subtropical moisture. The current 850mb model (~5000′) predicts temps of 4-8 degrees Celsius, far too warm for snow at ski area base elevations. If nothing changes in the storm track. Mt. Hood is going to receive 3-6” of rain between Sunday and Tuesday. There may be a few inches of snow down to 5000′ at the tail end of this system, but that’s about it unless something changes drastically.

Random Morning Thoughts
Election analysis this morning is focusing on a message of change. While “throw the bums out” may be part of what motivated so many people to vote last night, there’s more to the story.
Trump’s message of change includes specifics: banning Muslims from this country, deporting 11,000,000 Mexican-American undocumented residents (and 1,000,000 undocumented residents from other countries), and taking away health care from 22,000,000 people who were uninsured before the Affordable Care Act passed. Also implicit in Trump’s message is the normalization of hate speech and the objectification of women.
My non-White friends on Facebook are terrified. As a woman of Jewish ethnicity, I’m worried.
I’d like to encourage us to spend the time between now and election day contemplating how we will stand against hatred. We like to think that we’re better than “all those other places” that have oppressed, jailed and exterminated minorities. Unfortunately, we too have a history: we exterminated Native Americans, interned Chinese and Japanese, enslaved Blacks (among other atrocities). We’ve done it before, and it’s possible we will do it again.
Consider, just for a moment, this unlikely possibility. And decide what you will do if the worst comes to pass. Also consider what you will do now and in the next four years to help your non-white friends. Many of them are scared and hurting right now. The only way we can make America great again is to heal the divide. How will you help?

Road and Mountain Biking
Looks like it didn’t rain last night, and it’s looking like the rain will stay to the west of us this morning. That means you can ride perfect dirt until your legs are tired. I haven’t heard a report from the 44 Road trails, but with an inversion in place, it’ll be warm up there. Enjoy! In road biking news, we’ll have light east wind the next three days. Excellent for road biking.
