Tuesday & Wednesday forecast. Perfect dirt + I want a day off. =)

littlebit
It’s a light wind morning with gradients indicative of more wind later on: .05 (pdx-dls) and .03 (dls-psc). As a weak cold front moves through the area today, the wind will pick up, not a lot, but enough to get some of you on the water. Expect a slow build to 15-18 this afternoon with 18-22 possible for periods of time. You’ll find that wind from Stevenson out to The Dalles, with the strongest, steadiest wind likely to be at Stevenson and Rowena. If you’re curious about fish, there were 2281 Chinook past Bonneville yesterday, and there were 548 Steelhead. The numbers for dams further upstream are about double the numbers for Bonneville. River water temp is 64 degrees. Continued after the chart.

Today’s Gorge Wind – these are ranges for the average speed, not a predicted wind range. =)

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…

Back to the wind forecast, you can expect glassy conditions tomorrow morning. By midday tomorrow, Steven’s Locks and Rooster’s Rocks will have easterlies at 15-18. Not enough for me to stop on the way to school, but possibly enough for you to get on the water.

Expect stronger east wind on Thursday, with Rooster peaking at 30-35 or a bit more and Stevenson at 26-30. Friday looks like it’ll top out at 22-25 at Rooster Rock. .

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Nothing to say here today.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m usually pretty exhausted by the time I pull back into Hood River after attending my counseling classes at PSU. When I pulled into town last night, I was greeted by Little Bit’s delightful signboard: “Nature is cheaper than therapy.” I laughed. What a wonderful way to end an evening of therapist education!

The Gorge is your therapist. The Gorge is my therapist. The Gorge is everyone’s therapist!

I have this theory, based on nothing at all, that we are wired to be in Nature. We spent hundreds of thousands of years among the quiet trees, out on the empty savanna, wandering the Great Plains… Our systems adjusted to minimal noise, minimal moving objects, and relatively infrequent threats.

Now we spend our time in noisy places filled with vast numbers of fast-moving objects, lighting sources at times we should be winding down, and lots and lots of people we don’t know. It only makes sense that many of us feel anxious and worried and even depressed.

So, get back to your mother, Nature. Get back to the places that your system is likely hard-wired to find relaxing. Get your butt into the woods, up on a mountain, or out into the grassy desert east of Hood River. Let yourself wind down in nature. It’s cheaper than therapy, that’s for sure. And if you can get your therapist to join you in nature, even better. Have an awesome day getting some cut-rate therapy from Mother Earth!
*disclaimer required by my program: I am not your therapist. I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues.

Gorge Weather Forecast

WYSIWYG today: partly cloudy sky. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate late. No rainbows. Tomorrow looks sunny with temps in the upper 40’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Very light east wind. Expect another sunny day Thursday with temps in the upper 40’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows until Saturday, when we should see lots of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

TACKALERT. Yes, I went and inspected Post for you yesterday morning, and it’s awesome. Not only is the dirt awesome, but the leaves are changing color. And it’s not windy right now, so it will be quiet in the woods. Get your butt out there and ride! If you’re looking for road biking, today won’t be all that windy and tomorrow will be even light-windier. Thursday’s easterlies will mess with your road biking happiness.
