Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
The thing most worth talking about in the Mt. Hood snow forecast is the fact that there’s warmth and sunshine up there on the hill. If you’re somewhere down below the clouds and fog, consider heading up 5000′ to see the sun. Today, Tuesday, will be clear and sunny on the hill all day. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be around 13,000′ all day long. Wind speeds will be in the 10-15 range out of the SSW. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…
Wednesday starts off clear and sunny and quickly becomes rainy for a few hours. After a quick shot of showers, the weather turns clear and sunny again. The snow level will be 9000′ while it’s raining and 11,000′ for the rest of the day. We’ll see about .1-.2” of rain between 6am and 9am, and that’ll be it for rain for the day. Wind on Wednesday will be W 20 early, fading to SW 5-10 in the afternoon.
Thursday looks clear, warm and sunny. The FAF will be around 13,000′ all day long with temps over 50 degrees on the slopes. Wind on Thursday will be S 5-10 early and SW 10-15 in the afternoon.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished
Friday starts off warm and sunny and becomes rainy in the evening. The FAF will be 13,000′ early, 10,000′ in the afternoon, and the snow level will be around 9000′ when the precipitation arrives. That leaves us with rain on the volcano, approximately .4-.6” of rain between 7pm on Friday and 1am on Saturday. The next system is forecast for Sunday night, and that too looks too warm to snow at ski area base elevations.

Random Morning Thoughts
I talked a couple days ago about fear in this election cycle. Broadening that perspective, let’s take a look at what motivates people to cast votes in certain ways. It’s likely your motivations for supporting certain issues are multifaceted.
Consider this: are you voting out of fear? Anger? Hatred of certain groups? Greed? Not sure? Here’s an example of greed: my father always voted Republican because he believed that would lower his tax bill! It’s also possible you’re voting out of generosity and compassion towards others. Perhaps you’re voting for Jill Stein because you believe we’re all interconnected beings who need to make the planet our number one priority.
Are you voting against pot taxes because you don’t want pot to cost you more? Are you voting for the marijuana tax because you want to punish pot smokers? Or maybe you want to raise funds to better support education (or whatever pot tax money goes to in your county)? Or maybe both!
I believe it’s important to understand your motivations for casting your vote the way you do. And I would argue that casting a vote from a grounded place of goodness and love, rather than a place of fear, greed, or anger, is more likely to result in a vote that’s in the best interest of each person, each community, and this planet. Ultimately, though, it’s your vote. Cast it. Understand why you cast it the way you do. This is your duty as an American. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Gorge Weather Forecast
Looks like we’ve escaped the worst of the Nothing this morning. Patchy low Nothing is scattered about the Gorge, but the powers of sunshine will win today! Expect temps in the low 40’s early and low 60’s in the afternoon (warmer if you go up higher). East wind. No rainbows. Wednesday looks partly cloudy and showery to start with sunshine in the afternoon. Light wind. 89% chance of rainbows. Thursday looks sunny with a chance of Nothing early. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the upper 50’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Next chance of rainbows is Saturday.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
I took an inspection lap on Whoopdee yesterday to check out the dirt. It was a little slick in the whoops, but overall it was in good shape. That leads me to believe Post and Hospital are similar with excellent dirt at Syncline. Road biking looks fantastic after midday when temps will warm and the east wind will die off. Excellent biking continues Wednesday morning after the rain and Thursday all day.
Upcoming Events
It’s Tuesday. There’s free yoga at Flow at 4:30 and at HAVEN (Strong Women Yoga) in The Dalles at 5. There’s pickup touch rugby at 5 at the Hood River Marina Park. There’s $12 Prime Rib at Cebu tonight from 5pm to 9pm. At 6:30 this evening, there’s meditation at Yoga Samadhi with Ajahn Sudanto of Pacific Hermitage and 20-30 of your best meditation friends. This remains, and most likely always will, my favorite activity of the week.
Coming up this evening and tomorrow evening, there’s a Winter Companion Rescue Series at 2nd Wind. This two-day seminar (I believe there’s also a field practice session later) will teach you the basics of how to keep yourself and your friends safe in the backcountry as well as what to do if something Bad does happen. The cost is $94, well worth it if you plan to spend time skiing away from the resorts.
Coming up Thursday, it’s “Rooted”, a story slam with tales from our local community. You can catch the show at Columbia Center for the Arts at 6pm. The annual Gorge Gear Swap, also known as the Ski Swap, is at HRVHS on Saturday the 19th. That same day brings a work party in Post Canyon.
Have an awesome day today!
