Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Hi snow shredders! Another round of spring-like weekdays is on tap. That warmer weather will probably stick around through Friday or maybe Saturday. After that, the weather then turns colder and wetter. Yup, we’re probably going to see more snow starting next Sunday or Monday and lasting for a few days. Just when you thought it was safe to put away the cold-weather wax…

Tuesday starts with a few flurries or maybe freezing drizzle on the mountain. That’s after an inch or two of snow falls Monday night. The snow level will be 4000′ Tuesday morning, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 3500′ under clear sky overnight. Why might we see freezing drizzle? Well, sometimes when the clouds aren’t quite deep enough, snowflakes can’t form and we get drizzle instead. Call it a trace to 0.1” by the time the sky clears mid-morning. After it clears, it stays clear. Wind: W 35 in the morning fades to W 15-20 in the afternoon and becomes light/variable overnight.

Wednesday will be sunny all day. The free air freezing level (FAF) rises from 3500′ in the morning to 8000′ in the afternoon and 8500′ after midnight. Wind: light/variable early, SW 5-10 in the afternoon and overnight. Thursday will be sunny with temps maxing out near 40F at 5000′. The free air freezing level starts at 8500′, falls to 7000′, and rises back to 8500′ overnight. Wind: Variable to 10.

Extended: Friday looks warm and sunny with temps maxing out near 50F. Saturday also looks warm and sunny. Maybe. Models are all over the place when the next (cooler) weather system arrives. Let’s see how things shake out over the next couple of days. It does look like you can count on spring skiing Friday and maybe Saturday. Enjoy !

Gorge Wind Forecast

Hi friends! Models don’t have much wind in the picture through Friday, but they’re really excited about Sunday and optimistic about next Saturday and the following Monday. You know how those long-range forecasts are… not all that reliable. Just know you’re looking to next weekend for your next shot at a big wind day. Other than that… Thursday afternoon is your best shot.

Tuesday starts with 10-13 from Stevenson to Arlington. Afternoon wind drops to 7-10 between Stevenson and Avery thanks to intermittent drizzle. Between Rufus and Threemile, or perhaps Blalock Canyon and Threemile, we’ll have gusty 18-23. River flow Monday was 118-171kcfs, river temp is 49.28F, and high temp forecast is 60F and partly cloudy. Wednesday starts calm, rises to E 15 at Stevenson and E 10 at Iwash (Rooster). That lasts a few hours, and the wind dies off. High temp: 67F and mostly clear. Thursday starts calm. As an offshore low approaches in the afternoon, desert heating will be able to outpace west side heating. Expect 13-16 from Stevenson to The Dalles after 2pm with 16-19 from Stevenson to The Dalles after 5pm. High temp: 67F and high overcast.

Extended forecast. Not much happening Friday. Lots of model disagreement on Saturday; about 50% give us enough wind to get on the water. Most of the ensemble members have a stronger day on Sunday – that’s the day I’m watching. About 50% like Monday as well. Let’s see how this shakes out over the next few days. Have fun out there!

Jones, Sauvie’s, Coast Forecast – On vacation ‘til summer unless otherwise noted

Very basic Hood River weather forecast. Don’t plan your life around this. You really should read Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service on Facebook

Tuesday starts cloudy and turns partly cloudy or mostly clear. Temps start in the mid 40s and rise to 60. Light westerlies. No rainbows. Wednesday will be mostly clear then partly high overcast. Temps start in the upper 30s and rise to the upper 60s. Calm wind then light easterlies then calm again. No rainbows. Thursday will be partly high cloudy. Temps start near 40 and rise to the upper 60s. Calm wind early. Moderate westerlies later. No rainbows.

Local-ish Events

Please let me know of outdoor-related local-ish events. If you don’t tell me, I don’t know!

On April 16th at 6pm, Master Gardener Denis Carlson gives a talk at the Hood River Library on controlling rodents in your garden.

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. Cycling

Definitely got a Tack Alert going on out there right now – lots of good dirt. Some areas of Post are still muddy (shady, cool areas), so consider choosing a different spot to ride. You’ll have Post all summer long! Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. It’s trailbuilding season. Get on the HRATS mailing list if you’d like to help out. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
