It’s Tuesday morning, and this is the last forecast until next week. Given the weather setup, this is pretty good timing for me to not be able to forecast for a week. We’re looking at a series of upper level low pressure systems off the coast. That will keep the wind speed low in the Gorge, for the most part. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…
For Tuesday, you can expect light and variable wind through the morning. As a weather system moves into the area in the afternoon, we may see the wind pick up to W 10-13 through the entire Gorge. Your best bet for getting wind will be east of Hood River, as the western Gorge is going to get a rainy dousing in the afternoon and evening hours.

Wednesday sees an upper level low slowly slide inland. While that system sits to our west, we’ll have light easterly winds and heavy rain. As the system moves east of the Cascades in the evening, the wind will probably pick up to westerlies at 13-16. That said, this system is going right over our heads and could fire off thunderstorms. If that happens, anything can happen with the wind.
Thursday’s forecast is a bit in question depending on the path of an incoming weather system. The best forecast guess for now is westerlies at 5-10 in the morning and 10-13 in the afternoon. Model’s don’t have a consensus beyond that, so we’ll just leave it there. Have a great week, and I’ll see you next Monday!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Click here for your 2016-2017 ski season forecast. While this forecast is intended to be a 5000′ forecast, that wouldn’t quite cover the nuances of the next couple days. Precipitation is headed our way, and while it’ll be mixed at 5000′, it’ll be snowy above 6000′, leaving our volcanoes coated in white!
The snow level on Tuesday morning will be 5500′, rising to 6000′ midday and dropping to 5500′ overnight. We’ll see .1-.2” water value between this morning and 5pm, for an inch or so of snow. We’ll see another .2-.3” WV overnight, for 1-2” snow at 6000′. Wind today will be WSW 20 early, 30 midday, and 20 overnight.
Wednesday brings a snow level of 6000′ to 6500′. We’ll see .5-.7” WV between 5am and 5pm, most of which will fall before noon. That’ll give us 2-5” of new snow at 6000′. Flurries continue overnight for no more accumulation. Wind on Wednesday will be WSW 25 early and W 25 in the afternoon, fading overnight.
Thursday looks cloudy in the morning and partly cloudy or sunny in the afternoon. High clouds move back in overnight. The snow level will be 6000′ early and 10,000′ in the afternoon. Light and variable wind.
Random Morning Thoughts
Remember that this month is Gorge Happiness Month! Today’s activity is to introduce two people who can help each other. Unlike yesterday’s activity, complimenting a stranger, (RAINBOW – I see a rainbow!!!) today’s activity requires a bit of thought. Many of you might have dismissed it out of hand, thinking you don’t know enough people, or enough about the people in your life, or just-plain-enough to make this happen.
If that’s the thought that arose, that’s okay. You can start by complimenting a stranger, because I forgot to tell you to do that yesterday. Back to today’s task, I’d encourage you to spend a little time thinking about it. Bring to mind the people in your life who are in pain, in need of something, lacking something…
You may find yourself feeling helpless that you can’t decrease their suffering. While difficult to sit with, that emotion is okay. Alongside it, you can bring up empathy and compassion for this person’s struggle. Now think about all the people in the world who are struggling with the same thing as your friend. There are probably millions. Summon up compassion for them too.
While you might not be able to introduce your friend or the millions of others to someone who can help, you have just connected yourself more deeply with the rest of the people on this planet. You’re more aware of how interconnected we are. You’re more likely to help when you can. That makes you awesomer. Have an awesome day.

Road and Mountain Biking
We’ve just had a tenth of an inch of rain or so in the last 24 hours, not enough to make an impact down low. However, Viggers does report that the 44 Road Trail (and Viggers) got a soaking on Sunday, so you might find good dirt up there. Hospital Hill and Whoopdee are now open, leaving us with a full slate of trails to enjoy. If you want tacky dirt, expect it Thursday – Wednesday looks very, very wet. In road biking news, the road is wet. It will be slick. Be careful. In dirt biking news, Post Canyon has reopened for moto use. However, there’s quite a bit of logging going on in upper Post, and that will affect many trails including the 160 (Baby Head Alley, etc) and 170 (Dirt Surfer). Complete list: 130, 140, 150, 152, 160, 170, and 180.
