Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued

The thunderstorm potential increases on Thursday as a low pressure system moves overhead and destabilizes the atmosphere. The sky will be clear early and cloudy in the afternoon. Rain is almost certain to fall overnight. The snow level will be 13,000′ or so all day. About .2-.3” rain falls overnight. Wind will be light and variable out of the SW or SE. As of right now, Friday looks windy and cloudy and Saturday looks partly cloudy and colder with the freezing level around 4000′.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Tuesday and Wednesday both look calm. Not windy at all. Thursday starts with E 10-15 and then does who-knows-what in the afternoon as low pressure overhead triggers thunderstorms. There’s a good chance we’ll see a burst of strong westerlies after 5pm along with the thunder, but it’s not going to be reliable. The long range forecast looks more promising: High pressure builds offshore on Friday as a trough of low pressure moves east. It’s probably going to be a bit on the gusty side, but still, we’ll have W 30+, maybe ++, east of Hood River with gusty westerlies under the clouds in the western Gorge. Saturday is currently forecast to peak at 24-28 from HR to The Dalles, and Sunday looks like our first huge Corridor day with 30+ at Swell. Fingers crossed!

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy morning in the valley, but if you were to head up high, you’d find sun. Stay down here and the sun will probably find you this afternoon before the sky clouds over again. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the low 60’s this afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Wednesday looks cloudy early and sunny by afternoon with convective clouds. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the low 80’s in the afternoon. Yes, you read that right. No wind. No rainbows. Thursday looks sunny to start with thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 50’s early and the low 80’s in the afternoon. It will be very, very muggy Thursday afternoon. Light wind most of the day. Who knows in the afternoon? 50% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

I’m sure there’s going to be some perfect dirt out there this afternoon. Here’s the roundup of open trails: Columbia Hills, Whoopdee, Post (not to the top), Lower Nestor (has anyone ridden to the top yet?), Sandy Ridge, Kitchen Sink, Klickitat, Deschutes, Hospital Hill (NO DOGS). Road biking looks amazing today and tomorrow and Thursday morning: light wind.
