Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Thursday starts with partly cloudy sky and/or high clouds. We’ll see flurries start up between 1pm and 4pm, continuing through Friday morning. The snow level will be 5500′ early, 3500′ when the precip arrives, and less than 500′ after midnight. We’ll see .4-.5” WV between 4pm Thursday and 4am Friday, for 5-6” of powder. Friday currently looks partly cloudy with a few flurries early and clear in the afternoon. The free air freezing level will be less than 500′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon, and at the surface (sea level, my house) overnight. Random Morning Thoughts

As a baby therapist, I’m quite struck by the different expectations people have around relationships with friends, families, coworkers and new acquaintances. Some people, having learned in childhood (or later) that people are reliable and loving, approach others with an open heart. Others, having learned that people are scary, untrustworthy, and unreliable, approach the rest of humanity with this unconscious blueprint.

It’s important for each of us to understand our own interpersonal blueprint, roadmap, or, even better, instantaneous WAZE update. I happen to have the opinion that developing the ability to approach others with an open heart is one of the keys to a happy life. Yes, that openness contains the possibility for rejection and pain, but the love that it creates feels much better than approaching others with suspicion.

While it’s important to understand ourselves, it’s also important to see others around us with an understanding that each person carries their past. While we may not like the way some other people approach interpersonal interactions, we can create more patience, understanding, and compassion. Rather than blaming or judging someone for their behaviors, we can try to imagine what led to those patterns developing. This will not only benefit the other person, it will benefit us by creating a wider circle of human experience. Everyone’s awesome in their own way. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s a snowy start to the day today. Expect the snow to taper off before sunrise, switching to sleet and then rain sprinkles later on. We should see temps rise above freezing between 7am and 10am, leading to a high in the upper 30’s today. Light wind early, light west wind after noon. 98% chance of rainbows. Snow and rainbows in one day. Yay! Wednesday looks partly cloudy in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 30’s all day. Light west wind early, calm wind midday, light east wind late. Thursday looks cloudy all day with light rain and sprinkles after 4pm, possibly with snow mixed in. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and upper 30’s in the afternoon, dropping into the upper 20’s Thursday night, for very icy roads. Light wind. 1% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

Seeing as how we have another 4” of snow on the ground and the roads this morning, biking is out. I am quite pleased to say that Syncline is looking pretty good, given the freeze-thaw conditions. I did see two people out there riding and destroying trail yesterday, but it looks like most people have been staying off the delicate trail. Good work team! Keep telling your friends not to ride if it was below freezing the previous night.

Upcoming Events

It’s Tuesday. There’s free yoga at Flow at 4:30 and at HAVEN (Strong Women Yoga) in The Dalles at 5. There’s pickup touch rugby at 5 at the Hood River Marina Park. There’s $12 Prime Rib at Cebu tonight from 5pm to 9pm. At 6:30 this evening, there’s meditation at Yoga Samadhi led by community members until the monks return. This remains, and most likely always will, my favorite activity of the week.

Have an awesome day today!
