Tuesday. Snow for everyone!!!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It is snowing on Mt. Hood this morning, and another round of snow will arrive tonight. The snow level will be less than 500′ all day, dropping to sea level after sunset. We’ll see light snowfall before the second system, for .1-.2” WV during the day, giving us a couple inches of snow. The amount of snow with the second system really depends on the exact storm track. As of right now, it looks like the mountain will see .5-.6” WV, for 6-7” of light, fluffy new snow. Wind today will be SW 20-25 early, turning to E 10 after noon and picking up to E 25 overnight. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Wednesday’s snowfall also depends on the storm track, so let’s just go with the GFS and understand that the Euro is predicting a bit more. The snow level Wednesday will be at sea level, and temps on the mountain will be in the teens. We’ll see .2-.3” WV before the snow tapers off in the afternoon, giving us 2-4” of dry, light, fluffy new snow. The sky will clear overnight. Wind on Wednesday will be E 25, which could shake things up a bit at Timberline – they get hit hard by east wind. That said, the wind will die off pretty quickly, dropping to SW 10 in the afternoon and evening.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Thursday looks dry and sunny. The free air freezing level will be at the surface (your house). Temps on the mountain will start off in the teens and rise into the low 20’s. The wind will be light and variable all day long.

Friday also looks clear and sunny and dry. The free air freezing level will once again be at the surface. However, temps on the mountain will be in the upper 20’s early and in the low 30’s in the afternoon. Light and variable wind early turns to SW 10 in the afternoon and evening.

As of this morning, the weekend is currently looking dry and warm on the mountain with temps several degrees above freezing at least through Tuesday. Don’t take that as an indication of the weather at your house. =)

Random Morning Thoughts

One of my professors gives us an assignment each quarter that is intended to make us feel uncomfortable. Her assignments always give me a heavy feeling in the pit of my stomach. They induce anxiety. After completing her assignments, I find myself feeling freer, like I have more options in the world. I try new things, I speak more freely with people unlike myself, and my view of the world changes.

You don’t have to enroll in an expensive and time-consuming counseling graduate program to experience a similar shift in your world. Pick a domain of your life. Any domain. It could be sports, it could be work, it could be your sexuality, or it could be your social patterns. Think of something outside your comfort zone. Not just a little outside – it has to be far enough outside your comfort zone to make you feel anxious.

Now go do that thing. Try that thing. Have a new experience.

After you do whatever you’ve planned to do, set aside some time, fifteen minutes to an hour, to reflect upon how your world shifted because you tried this thing.

Our human tendency is to fall into routines. That’s how we kept ourselves safe from saber-toothed tigers when we lived as nomadic gatherers. Our worlds are less dangerous now, but we’re still programmed for safety. Stretch your boundaries, and make your world bigger. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It is snowing out there this morning. We’ll see 1-3” by noon, a short break, and then another round of light snowfall after 4pm for 1-3” by Wednesday morning. Temps will be in the upper 20’s to low 30’s today. East wind will really ramp up this afternoon. No rainbows. Wednesday sees light snow flurries all day long for an inch or so of new snow. Temps will be in the low 20’s all day. East wind. No rainbows. Thursday looks sunny and dry. Temps will be in the teens or lower (depends on when the sky clears overnight) and the mid 20’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. No more precip in the forecast through the weekend. One thing to point out is that if this afternoon’s storm system comes further north than expected, we could see more snow.

There’s $12 Prime Rib at Cebu tonight from 5pm to 9pm. It’s Two Fer Tuesday at 6th Street. At 6:30 this evening, there’s meditation at Yoga Samadhi led by community members until the monks return.
