Gorge Wind Forecast

Good morning, friends! We’re looking at four out of five for easterlies this week followed by a shot at westerlies on Sunday. Ensembles generally call for westerlies that day, but they’re all over the map on strength and timing. My fingers are crossed, but I’m not sure that alone will make the wind happen at the right strength and right time of day!

For Tuesday, you get east wind. Expect Iwash (Rooster) to start at 30mph and fall to 20-25 late morning. Afternoon: 15mph. Stevenson rises to 20-25 for a few hours before fading to 15mph. Viento: 15ish all day. River flow yesterday was 86-156kcfs, river temp is 54F, and high temp forecast is 54F with sunshine. Wednesday will be light westerly (5-10mph) near Stevenson early in the morning. That’ll be accompanied by some early drizzle. By late morning, the wind turns totally calm all through the Gorge and the sky clears. High temp: 54F. Easterlies return for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Expect 30mph max averages or thereabouts.

Sunday’s westerlies really depend on timing. The weather system has been trending earlier, meaning late Saturday night into the wee hours of Sunday. That’s NOT what we want. A Sunday mid-morning frontal passage would be ideal. Please vote for that if you can figure out where to go to vote! Have a great day.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – intermittent forecasts until ski season

Not much is happening on the mountain this week other than some beautiful weather for hiking. Models were hinting at colder and wetter weather starting next week, but now they’re backing off on that solution. Generally speaking, models are calling for dry weather for at least the first half of next week, and there’s no clear sign of temps dropping into the definitely-snow zone.

Expect a clear and sunny day on Tuesday after a high overcast start. Overnight: light rain. The snow level will be around 6500′ all day. Wind: light SW early rising to SW 15-30 in the evening and dropping to 10-20 overnight. Wednesday starts with a few sprinkles or light drizzle and turns clear by late morning. The snow level will be 6500′ all day with the free air freezing level down to 6000′ overnight. Wind: SW 10-20 early, W 20 in the afternoon, and variable to 10 overnight.

Thursday and Friday look sunny and warmer with light and variable wind. The free air freezing level will rise to 10,000′ or so and stay there for about 48 hours. The next system arrives late Saturday into Sunday and brings some light to moderate rain. After that: probably dry and warmer for a bit. Hmph. As of yesterday, it looked like “game on” starting Monday. Not so much now. Alas. Well, winter and the accompanying snowpack will come eventually!

Hood River Weather Forecast

Mostly clear sky this morning turns totally clear midday and then adds some high clouds in time for sunset. Temps start in the mid 30’s and rise to the mid 50’s. Easterlies. No rainbows. Wednesday starts with a little drizzle but turns dry and mostly clear by late morning. Temps start in the upper 30’s and rise to the mid 50’s. Calm wind. 52% chance of rainbows. Thursday will be mostly clear and frosty then clear. Temps start in the low 30’s and rise in the upper 40’s. Easterlies. No rainbows.
