Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Autumn weather continues with cool overnight temps and a series of weak weather systems moving through the Northwest. A brief period of offshore high pressure combines with an approaching from on Wednesday for a chance of stronger westerlies.

For Tuesday, gradients started at .05 at 5am. That’s enough to indicate we’ll see more wind than model predictions today. 8-12 this morning from Viento to Swell picks up to 16-19 this afternoon from Stevenson to The Dalles. River flow is 68,300 cfs and temp is 66 degrees.

Wednesday sees offshore high pressure combine with an approaching weather system. The first is good for wind. The second not so much. The day starts with 14-17 from Viento to Mosier. Westerlies build to gusty 24-27 mid-afternoon from Stevenson to Rufus with a chance of 26-29 near Rowena.

Thursday looks cloudy, never a good indicator of a windy day. 12-15 everywhere in the morning becomes 13-16 in the west and 5-10 in the east in the afternoon. Models disagree on Friday, but it looks like there’s a chance of gusty 22-27 as an upper level low moves into BC.

BONUS: Jones Tuesday: 12-15. Wednesday: 13-16. Thursday: no. Sauvie’s Tuesday: 10-13. Wednesday: 10-13. Thursday: no. Coast (north/central/south). Tuesday: 15-20/15-20/25-30, S swell turning to W 3′ at 15 seconds. Wednesday: W5/NW5/N25-30, W 3′ @ 12. Thursday: S5/LTV/N25-30, W 3′ @ 9.

Total precip: 1/10” rain. Wind: SW 5 rising to WNW 20 overnight. Thursday looks cloudy. FAF: 10,000′ rising to 12,000′. Wind: WNW 20 all day. SW 20 overnight.

Gorge Weather Forecast

There seems to be a partial Nothing out there this morning, but the sky should clear today. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and low 70’s later. Moderate west wind. No rainbows. Wednesday looks clear with some high clouds possible. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and near 70 in the afternoon. Moderate to strong westerlies. No rainbows. Thursday looks cloudy with a few sprinkles early. Temps will be near 50 early and near 70 later. Light westerlies. 43% chance of rainbows.

BROWN POW! Post Canyon is brown pow. I also have a report of perfect dirt on Falls Creek. Moto trails in Post Canyon reopen today, according to a Hood River County email that went out yesterday afternoon. All other moto trails remain closed. Whoopdee, Hospital, and Underwood also remain closed.
