Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Good morning skiers, snowboarders and rather morose Nordic skiers. But wait, there’s hope! Models indicate consistent and lasting cooling starting the 3rd of January with increasing moisture, snow, a couple days later. Of course, that’s a long ways out, but I’m going to latch onto that and hope my heart out! 50th percentile snowfall between now and January 9th: 16”. 90th percentile: 29”. In the meantime…

Today starts mostly cloudy and partly above freezing with wet snow. Sun midday gives way to high clouds this afternoon. The free air freezing level was around 6000′ at the time of this report, and it will rise to 9000′ this afternoon and 10,000′ overnight. Temps at 5000′ max out in the mid to upper 30’s. Wind: WSW 20-25 this morning, S 10-20 this afternoon, and S 20-40 after midnight. A few sprinkles are possible overnight, but nothing too dramatic, and probably nothing measurable.

Wednesday looks drizzly during the day with light snow overnight. The snow level will be 10,000′ early, 5500′ in the afternoon, and 5000′ after midnight. About 0.2” rain is forecast during the day. About 0.1” water equivalent (WE) is forecast as snow – a trace to an inch – overnight. Wind: S 20-40 in the morning turns to SW 30-45 midday and holds through the night.

Thursday brings very light snowfall followed by very light mixed precip overnight. The snow level will be 5000-5500′ during the day and 5500′ rising to 6500′ overnight. About 0.1” WE is forecast during the day for an inch of new. Overnight: just a trace of mixed precip. Wind; SW 30-40 early, SW 10-20 in the afternoon, and S 10-20 overnight. Another round of very light drizzle is forecast on Friday. Let’s leave it there for now and revisit the extended forecast tomorrow. Have a great day!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Hi friends! Welcome to winter. It’ll nearly all easterlies, nearly all the time. Thank you El Niño? Tuesday starts with 30 near Iwash and building wind at Stevenson and Viento. Midday easterlies should rise to 35-40 at Iwash and 30-35 at Viento. Afternoon: 40-50 at Iwash and 303-5 at Viento. The weather will be dry with partly cloudy sky in the west. River flow yesterday was 88-135kcfs, river temp is 45F, and high temp forecast is 41F.

Wednesday’s going to be rainy, but that won’t stop the wind. A short burst of very strong wind early fades and then returns at lesser strength. Dawn Patrol at Iwash looks like 50-60 with 35-40 at Stevenson. That fades to 30 (Iwash) and 25 (Stevenson) midday. Afternoon: 30-35 at Stevenson and 40 near Iwash. The rain could end in time for you to take advantage of that afternoon bump. High temp: 40F under cloudy, drizzly sky. Thursday looks showery all day with easterlies bouncing around between 20-25 and 15 or so. High temp: 45F under high clouds.

Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information.
