Gorge Wind Forecast

Offshore low pressure combines with several shortwaves and fronts and instability for unreliable moderate westerlies for the rest of the week. Afternoon thunderstorm chances further impact the reliability of the forecasts and the steadiness of the wind.

For Tuesday, offshore low pressure combines with an approaching cold front for moderate westerlies in the afternoon. Morning wind will be int eh 10-14 range from Viento to Mosier with 5-8 in other locations. As the front approaches in the afternoon, the wind picks up to gusty 20-23 from Stevenson to Rufus. River flow is 171kcfs and temp is 63 degrees.

Widespread clouds, southerly upper flow, and instability on Wednesday combine for another low-accuracy wind forecast. Morning westerlies, in the wake of a passing cold front, will be 14-17 from Stevenson to Arlington. After 2pm, the wind picks up to gusty 24-27 from Hood River to Rufus with 13-16 out east. Instability and a chance of thundershowers could shut the wind down randomly at random locations.

Thursday will also be cloudy with a good chance of afternoon thunder. Morning wind will be 7-10 in the west and 12-15 east of The Dalles. Wind speeds hold in the 7-10ish range in the western Gorge and pick up to gusty 18-22 in the eastern Gorge. Low pressure moves inland Friday afternoon, increasing the wind to the 21-24 range with a solid chance of thunderstorms and showers. The long-range forecast for the weekend is moderate westerlies.
