Tuesday Gorge wind forecast: typical fall weather…

Hi friends! We’re a day into autumn, and we’re full-on experiencing an autumn setup on the river: east wind for a couple days, then west wind, then a high degree of uncertainty in the Gorge wind forecast as we head into the weekend and the weather (potentially) turns a bit more active.

Meet your forecaster: Temira

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. today’s gorge wind forecast

Hi friends! We’re a day into autumn, and we’re full-on experiencing an autumn setup on the river: east wind for a couple days, then west wind, then a high degree of uncertainty in the Gorge wind forecast as we head into the weekend and the weather (potentially) turns a bit more active.

Tuesday started off with offshore flow and pressures of 30.03/30.15. With a nice cap in place, east wind won’t spill over the Cascade crest, which gives us a solid morning on the river. Iwash (Rooster) Rock will be 30-35mph this morning. Stevenson rises to 25mph after a slightly lesser start. Viento should rise to 20-25mph. WYSIWYG for a few hours this morning. Around noon, the wind drops: 20-25mph at Iwash, 20mph at Stevenson, and 15mph at Viento. We’ll lose another 5mph as the day goes on. Areas east of the Hatchery will rise to E 10mph. River flow over the last 24 hours was 60-112kcfs, river temp is 70.0F, and high temp forecast is 82F for Hood River.

tomorrow’s gorge wind forecast

Wednesday looks like a transition day. Morning wind will be E 15mph at Stevenson and Iwash with 10-15mph at Viento. That won’t last long. West wind returns in the afternoon and slowly builds to 13-16mph between Stevenson and Hood River. To the east of Hood River: light wind all day. High temp: 86F for Hood River.

EURO ENSEMBLE GORGE WIND FORECAST FOR THE NEXT WEEK

A trough (cool air) approaches the coast on Thursday, and the ridge (warmer) shifts east of the Cascades. As of this morning, the GFS deterministic calls for 26-29mph at TJ’s Dawn Patrol between Viento and Mosier. For the rest of the day: 26-29mph from Stevenson to Mosier with 28-32mph between Lyle and Rufus. Arlington: 20-23mph. High temp: 76F in Hood River and 84F out in the desert.

Models are all over the place on Friday. They offer up everything from light/variable wind to westerlies at 17-20mph. There’s no way to make a prediction yet. Saturday and Sunday are equally unpredictable; various models offer anything from east wind to strong west wind. We’ll have to wait and see how things shake out over the next couple of days. Have a great day on the river!

HYPERLOCAL WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE COLUMBIA GORGE

THE DALLES, HOOD RIVER, WHITE SALMON, TROUT LAKE, STEVENSON, CASCADE LOCKS, PARKDALE, ODELL, HUSUM, BZ, MILL A, WILLARD, GOLDENDALE, RUFUS, ARLINGTON, boardman

Good morning, neighbors! Several more days of sunny, warm fall weather are on tap. Uncertainty rises on Friday, and that’s followed by a chance of a little moisture (Ma Nature drooling over the Gorge) sometime in the Sunday through Tuesday time frame. About 65% of the Euro ensemble has some rain for Cascade Locks, and about 40% of that ensemble has some rain for The Dalles. At this point, given the tendency of models to back off on forecast rain amounts, a soaker seems unlikely.

Glenwood this morning and today’s Gorge weather forecast

Know what’s likely this morning? Another chilly start in Glenwood; it was 34 degrees there as I was typing this, and there’s still time for a degree or two more of chill to seep in prior to daytime heating. This time around sunrise is the coolest of the day, even in Glenwood, where the rules don’t always apply. With clear sky, low humidity, and east wind today, we’ll see a huge swing in the temps. Today’s highs rise to the low 80s (west and desert) and mid 80s (The Dalles). East wind starts at 35mph near Iwash (schlong) Rock, 20-25mph near Stevenson, 20mph at Viento, and 5mph to the east. Afternoon wind drops to 20mph at Iwash, 15mph at Stevenson, and rises to 10mph east of Viento all the way out into the desert. Up in the hills, we’ll have east wind at 15-25mph. Down along the river, we’ll have smoke. I know this because it’s smoky this morning: AQI readings range from 132-161 along the Nch’i Wana this morning. It appears the smoke is coming from Idaho. As long as Idaho freedom restrictions don’t follow the smoke, I can tolerate it. But if Idaho comes for my rights, watch out!

Speaking of rights, yesterday I exercised my Freedom To Vaccinate and got my flu and Covid shots. It’s been a confusing stretch, but you can now get those shots without a prescription in both Oregon and Washington. Bonus: all the other people getting their shots were friendly and fun to talk to. Vaccinators are nice people – they’re doing a kindness to both themselves and those around them. If you get vaxxed at Walgreens, you get a coupon for 20% off stuff in the store. Safeway will give you a coupon for $20 off. Combine that with masterful use of the Club Card, and you might just exceed the hallowed 50% savings mark. Do it!

Wednesday’s Gorge weather forecast

Wednesday looks like a pretty chill day in terms of weather if not in terms of temps: clear sky and a 50 degree start gives way to clear sky and mid 80s (west), low 90s (The Dalles) and mid 80s (The Desert). East wind will be 15mph west of Hood River in the morning. Afternoon wind switches direction and rises to W 15mph between Stevenson and Hood River. To the east: light wind all day. Models suggest this is our last 90+ degree day for a while, maybe for the year! The last 90 degree record high for The Dalles is 10/7. Hood River: 9/30. We’re almost there!!!

extended Gorge weather forecast

Moving on to Thursday… a cool trough approaches the coast. Warmth sticks around in the desert. This gives us a very windy day, all day long. Watch out for Boardheads (WIND JOHNNIES) narrowly focused on river unicorns (BREAKING WAVES) and wind speed apps (IWINDSURF). Call it 25-30mph from Stevenson to Mosier in the morning and from Stevenson to Rufus or Arlington in the afternoon.

So much for your fishing plans, eh?

High temps range from 76F (west) to 83F (The Dalles) and 85F (desert). Uncertainty rises on Friday and continues through the weekend. Moisture is unlikely. Highs will be in the mid/upper 70s Friday and in the 80-85F range Saturday. Far more uncertainty is present on Sunday and into next week as models struggle to resolve the timing of a cooler, potentially damp system. Looking deeper into next week, we see high temps under 80 degrees all week long. Pleasant. Great weather for getting vaccinated against all the stuff that floats in the air during the fall and winter cold and flu season. Safe travels. -TATAS
