Mt. Hood Weather Forecast


It Tuesday morning, and it’s the last of our sunny days for a bit. We’re headed into a few days of light to moderate snowfall with continued sub-freezing temps on the mountain for the extended period.

Tuesday’s deets: partly cloudy sky early turns cloudy in the evening. Snow starts up by 11pm. The now level will be 0′. Mountain temps will be in the teens early and mid 20’s this evening. Up to 0.1” water value (WV) falls tonight, for an inch of new snow. Wind will be SW 10-15 all day and night.

Light snow continues Wednesday morning, stops midday, and returns Wednesday night. The snow level will be 0′ early, 1000′ in the afternoon, and 0′ overnight. Precip: 0.1” WV in the morning, for an inch of snow. 0.3”+ (the plus is due to orographic effects) WV overnight, for 3-5” of powder. Wind will be SW 10 early, WSW 25 in the afternoon, and W 20 overnight.

Snow continues on Thursday. The snow level will be 0′ early, 1000′ in the afternoon, and 0′ overnight. About 0.4”+ (orographics) WV falls during the day, for 4-6” of new. Another 0.2”+ (orographics) falls overnight, for 2-4” of new. Wind Thursday will be @ 20-25 in the morning, WNW 25 in the afternoon, and NW 20 overnight. Models disagree on the weather Friday. The Euro is more aggressive with precip than the GFS, which just has a trace. Weekend: current forecast is dry and sunny and cold with extra daylight on Sunday!
 

Gorge Wind


Tuesday brings another round of east wind. Morning: 40-50 near Rooster, 30-35 near Stevenson, 25-30 near Viento. Afternoon: 35-40 near Rooster and 20-25 Stevenson/Viento. River flow is 157kcfs and temp is 35 degrees. Wednesday starts with E 35-40 near Rooster and 30-35 near Stevenson. The wind drops to 10-15 by 1pm and switches to W 5-10 through the entire Gorge after 4pm. The wind becomes light and variable overnight and W 5 on Thursday afternoon. Maybe. It might be light and variable all day Thursday.

Hood River Weather Forecast

A high level Nothing this morning will give way to high clouds today. Snow starts up around 11pm. Temps will be in the teens early and upper 20’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Snow continues through 10am Wednesday. Total accumulation: 1-3”. Temps Wednesday will be in the mid 20’s early and mid 30’s later. Another round of precip arrives overnight. It’s really hard to tell at this point what the snow level will be with this one, but 1-3” snow is possible. East wind in the morning turns to light westerly in the afternoon (or perhaps calm). 2% chance of rainbows. Thursday starts off with snow and turns to rain. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and upper 30’s later. Light and variable wind turns light westerly. 5% chance of rainbows. Road and Mountain Biking

Silly rabbit… it’s not biking season in the Gorge. It’s XC skiing and BC skiing season! And Gorge Backcountry skiing. Remember, avalanche hazard does exist in the Gorge too. Be safe, and be wise in your decision making. Dig pits. Avoid wind-loaded steep slopes.
 

Upcoming Events

It’s Tuesday. There’s Zen meditation at Trinity Body Arts at 6am, free yoga at HAVEN in The Dalles at 5:30pm, and meditation with the Pacific Hermitage Monk(s) at 6:30pm at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. Saturday is the annual seed swap at the Rockford Grange. 1pm to 3pm. Come get seeds and/or share your seeds.
