Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Active weather on Tuesday and Thursday and Friday keeps the westerlies blowing. Between them, Wednesday gives you a break from the westerlies to do whatever else you need to do. It looks like the weekend will bring hotter weather and calm or easterly wind.

Low pressure over the region on Tuesday combines with cool temps above for heating in the desert and some weak instability in the afternoon. That will affect the wind quality, but not necessarily the strength. Morning wind will be 0-5 at Stevenson and 9-12 east of there to Arlington. By 11am or so, the wind builds to gusty 22-26 from Mosier to Rufus with 10-13 east and west. Afternoon westerlies pick up to 25-28 from The Dalles to Arlington with 13-16 in the western Gorge. Also this afternoon: possibility of showers everywhere as heating and instability combine to make cumulus clouds. High temp: 65F. River flow: 209kcfs. River temp: 55F.

High pressure builds inland on Wednesday. Gradients decrease, and so does the wind. While you’ll find light westerlies, 10mph or less, in the morning, you won’t in the afternoon. The forecast is for light and variable or calm wind. High temp: 74F.

A strong cold front is forecast for Thursday. Rain falls in the western Gorge all day long, probably west of Underwood. Your windsport activities will have to shift east. The day starts with E 10-15 in the western Gorge, calm wind from Swell to Doug’s, and W 10-15 east of The Dalles. Afternoon westerlies pick up to gusty 26-32 from Avery to Threemile with 10-13 west of The Dalles. High temp: 63F.

Friday’s forecast is currently 24-27. Saturday and Sunday’s forecast contains easterlies. That could change. Enjoy the river today!
