Tuesday. Break out the sunscreen, ‘cuz Oregon’s the new Maui!

2015-03-14_15-45-07 M=A R=8 S=4
Today will be another beautiful, sunny day on the slopes of Mt. Hood. Unfortunately, the snow is taking its sweet time turning to corn. Despite radiational cooling refreezing it overnight, it hasn’t turned granular yet. That means you’re going to want to get it early before it turns sticky. It will be sunny all day, so if nothing else, you can head to the ski resorts to work on your tan! Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast

East wind at Rooster at 40-50 this morning and 30-35 at Steven’s Locks. The easterlies will fade a bit this afternoon, dropping off to 25-30 at Rooster. In case you were wondering, this morning’s gradient is E .30. That’s the biggest I’ve seen in a while, and explains why Stevenson has joined in the windiness so early.

Expect east wind at 15-20 Wednesday morning and west wind at 5-10 Wednesday afternoon. Thursday brings easterlies at 25-30 in the morning and light east wind Thursday afternoon. Friday is looking like light and variable wind all day long.
Oregon.

Random Morning Thoughts

Whatever this virus is that’s going around, you don’t want it. I’m doing my best not to get too frustrated, but I’ve been sick for what seems like forever, and I’m frustrated. I want to be outside playing in the sun and the perfect dirt with the rest of you! And I’d like to be able to pull it together enough to make it to school. That would be nice.

Anyway, being sick, as we all know, sucks. We can be pissed off about it, and we can also take it as an opportunity to let other people receive the gift of helping us out (but hopefully not the gift of our sickness). Over the last several days, my friends have brought me pills and drinks and food. They’ve sent kind words via Facebook and text and email.

And I’m just sitting here soaking up the kindness. It’s not often we get to revert to a whiny child state where people take care of us. But it really is okay to do it once in a while, especially when you’re in the grips of some nasty virus. It’s hard to feel good while you feel shitty, but at least you can soak in the love from your friends by asking for help.

Hopefully you’re not sick, but if you are, reach out. If nothing else, your emotions will feel better, and so will your friends – by letting them help you, you help them feel like good people. Be well, and have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking

I tried to go for a walk in Post Canyon yesterday, but I was too sick to walk. So, I sat by the stream in the sun. The dirt looked really good, in case you were wondering. The dirt is not good at Whoopdee. There’s still snow and mud, so don’t go riding there. Isn’t Steve great? He got right back to me with a report! If you’d like to ride, Syncline is calling. And by the way, a grass widow was spotted at Rowena Dell yesterday, so watch for them at Syncline soon!

Upcoming Events

Coming up this evening, there’s Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30. There’s $12 Prime Rib at Cebu from 5pm to 9pm. There’s pickup touch rugby at 5pm at the ball fields next to Jackson Park. Tonight at 6:30, it’s the Return of the Monks to Yoga Samadhi’s weekly meditation group. Ajahns Sudanto and Karunadhammo will be leading the 30(ish) minute sit and dhamma talk. It kinda sounds religious, but it’s not, really. It’s just cool folks practicing mindfulness together.

Have an awesome day today!
