Tuesday: beautiful no-wind day!

Thank you for using this forecast. Like it? Find it useful? Support it (and me!) by sending some cash my way. Why should you keep doing this when the mountains and beaches are closed? Because my bills don’t stop – I hope you’ll consider subscribing even though the world has ground to a standstill. That’ll…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Great news: Washington state parks will reopen on May 5th, meaning that The Hatchery and Doug’s Beach will reopen. No word yet from the Army Corps (The Wall, Rufus, Roosevelt). No word yet from the Port of Hood River (Event Site), Oregon State Parks (Rowena, Viento). Mosier (Rock Creek) is open to residents of 97040 only. Again, please continue to practice “essential travel only” – sadly, windsports are not considered essential, even if you are having FOMO. Please don’t come to the Gorge to recreate.

Tuesday’s wind forecast: light and variable, all day long. River flow is 227kcfs and temp is 52 degrees. Wednesday starts with very light westerlies. By 8 to 9am, the wind picks up to 17-20 from Stevenson to The Dalles. By early afternoon, we’ll have 12-15 in the west (with drizzle) and gusty 27-31 from Rowena to Boardman. Thursday starts with W 10-13 everywhere. Afternoon wind picks up to gusty 24-27 from Avery to Threemile with 10-13 in the western Gorge. Friday currently looks light and variable.

Jones, Sauvie’s, and Coast forecast are on break to discourage travel.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

All the mountains are closed, the forest is closed, and neither in-bounds nor out-of-bounds snowsports are available at this time. Some of you will be tempted to go out backcountry skiing. Take a look at this sobering article about a recent BC rescue and consider carefully if you want to put others at risk. Remember, Timberline, Skibowl, and Meadows are all closed to uphill traffic at this time. This is to comply with Kate Brown’s executive orders. It’s the law, folks. Obey it!

Weather for the mountain for Tuesday – partly cloudy with scattered sprinkles followed by light rain overnight. The snow level will be 10,000′ in the morning and 12,000′ in the afternoon and evening. Just a trace of rain falls during the day. Another trace falls overnight. Wind: WSW 15 in the morning, W 15 in the afternoon, and SSW 10-20 overnight.

Wednesday sees partly cloudy sky with a few scattered sprinkles in the morning. The sky clears above 6000′ in the afternoon and high clouds move in overnight. The snow level will be 12,000′ all day and will drop to 5000′ or so overnight. Wind: SSW 10-20 in the morning, WSW 30-35 in the afternoon, SW 20-30 overnight. Thursday brings high overcast sky and dry weather. The sky clears overnight. Freezing level: 5000′ all day falling to 4000′ overnight. Wind: SW 20-30 in the morning, W 20 in the afternoon, and SW 5-10 overnight. As of right now, Friday looks dry, Saturday looks rainy, and Sunday looks snowy.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Muggy. Moderate westerlies. No rainbows. Thursday sees a few scattered sprinkles under cloudy sky early. Afternoon: partly cloudy. Temps will be near 50 early and in the low 60’s later. Cycling

Trails and roads on Hood River County land (Post Canyon, Pine Mont), will reopen for residents of Hood River County ONLY on April 28th. Staging and parking areas will remain closed. The Sheriff will be checking ID’s and issuing fines to trespassers; it is a class C misdemeanor with civil penalties for violating this “locals only” order. Other trails remain closed: SDS (Underwood, Whoopdee), and Kreps (Hospital Hill) lands. DNR land (Nestor) is closed per the DNR website and a little tiny sign at the bottom of the Nestor trail. USFS (44 Road trails, Syncline) are closed. State Parks (Columbia Hills, Twin Tunnels) are closed.
