Random Morning Thoughts
Sometimes we have a day where things feel pretty awful on the inside. Strong, difficult emotions are made more difficult by the painful physical feelings that accompany them. Being in a place of deep emotional hurt can leave us feeling trapped in our bodies, unable to escape the internal horror.
I don’t believe that we can make our emotions go away (unless we have a well-established dissociation practice due to past trauma, but that’s a different story). All we can do is develop coping strategies. The most powerful coping strategy in times of emotional crisis is emotional Aikido. Go with the flow. Don’t resist, don’t try to stop the pain, let it wash over you, and simply hold compassion for yourself.
Struggling with internal pain only adds to the intensity of the suffering. Plus, the struggle saps energy that can be used for distraction or soothing or self-compassion. So, in the midst of your pain, bring up a felt sense of compassion for your suffering, just as you’d bring up compassion for the suffering of a friend. It’ll a small step, but one that may bring some relief. You’re awesome. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
No, really, it’s too muddy to ride in Post Canyon, so please stop. Maybe it will dry out by Thursday if we don’t see more rain. Syncline might be doable this afternoon. In road biking news, this afternoon looks nice: dry and light wind. Wednesday looks dry and so does Thursday!
