Gorge Wind Forecast

Moderate westerlies in the low 20’s or so continue for the next four days along with mostly sunny weather. Stronger westerlies are likely on Saturday followed by a switch to easterlies on Sunday.

Looking more closely at Tuesday, we see a 0.10 (pdx-dls) gradient to start the day with westerlies in the 17-20 range from Viento to Swell and 10-13 other places. The wind rises to 22-25 from Viento to Hood River by late morning. Stevenson picks up to 18-22, and Rowena picks up into the 13-16 range. That stretch of river (Rowena) will also pick up to 22-25 later today. Rufus maxes out at 14-17. East of there: light wind. It’s worth mentioning that a weak system to the south could push some high clouds through the area. Result: afternoon decrease in speed (18-22 near Swell) and increase in gustiness everywhere. River flow is 125kcfs and temp is 69 degrees. High temp: 83.

Wednesday looks quite similar: westerlies start at 16-19 from Viento to Hood River. You’ll find 10-13 or less everywhere else on Wednesday. Midday wind picks up to 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles and stays that way through evening. High temp: 84

Not much changes between Wednesday and Thursday. We’ll be set for another day of moderate westerlies. Expect 20-23 to start from Viento to Hood River. The wind won’t pick up much; expect 22-25 from Stevenson to The Dalles from late morning on. High temp: 83.

Our ridge of high pressure tilts more positive on Friday. Westerlies decrease, but still will be present. Stronger, gustier wind returns ahead of a cold front on Saturday. Models currently hint at easterlies Sunday.

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Mt. Hood Meadows allows hiking within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.

Have an awesome day!
