Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Thursday’s going to be another sunny, above-freezing day on the mountain. Clear sky sticks around Friday daytime before a return to snow Friday night into Saturday. Expect lighter snow on Sunday. Plan your weekend accordingly!

For Thursday, expect a sunscreen, sunshine sort of day on the mountain. The free air freezing level will be 6500′ early, 8000′ in the afternoon, and 9000′ overnight. Wind will be NW 5-10 during the day, W 10-15 in the evening, and SW 10-15 overnight.

Friday starts out clear. Clouds move in early evening and snowfall starts up around 9pm. The snow level will be 9000′ early, 4500′ in the afternoon, and will fall to 1500′ after midnight. About 0.4” water value (WV) falls overnight, for about 4” of regular quality snow. Wind: SW 10-15 early, WSW 30-40 in the afternoon, W 35 after midnight.

Saturday brings continues light snowfall, although models do disagree on amounts. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 0-500′ under clear sky overnight. About 0.2 to 0.4” WV falls during the day, for 2-4” of standard-issue snow. Another 0.1” WV falls overnight, for an inch of powder. Wind: W 35 early, NW 25-30 in the afternoon, NW 10 overnight.

Sunday brings on and off flurries with partly cloudy sky. The snow level will be 500′ early, 1000′ in the afternoon, and back to 500′ or so overnight. No accumulation, or perhaps just a trace. Wind: NW 10 early, NW 15 in the afternoon, NW 20-25 overnight. As of Thursday morning, Monday’s forecast is for snow during the day and a mix of light rain and light snow overnight. That’s a long way out for certainty, so we’ll just keep an eye on it. In the meantime, you’ve got a couple day of springlike skiing to enjoy!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Light west wind on Thursday morning gives way to calm or very light easterlies this afternoon. Perfect day to get a no-wind activity done! Friday starts with light easterlies. As a low approaches Canada and a front approaches the PNW, the wind picks up. Expect very gusty 13-16 from Stevenson to The Dalles with gusty 25-30 east of The Dalles. Saturday starts with light westerlies in the west and 12-15 east of The Dalles. The wind picks up to 23-26 from Mosier to Arlington in the afternoon. As of this morning, we’re expecting W 16-19 on Sunday.

Cycling

It’s going to be a warm and lovely day for a ride. With temps near freezing, the soil above 1000′ will like be impacted by freeze-thaw. Please don’t ride there, or you’ll do trail damage. Please don’t ride through the liquefied trail tread. Turn around and go home and get your road or gravel bike so you don’t do permanent trail damage!
