Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s Thursday morning, and it sounds like the weather is still transitioning from rain to snow. That transition should be complete by sunrise, setting the mountain up for a bit of accumulation. Light snowfall continues for the next few days. That’ll be followed by a period of sunny, dry weather next week.

For Thursday, expect a rain-snow mix before sunrise. That will transition to snow. Partly cloudy sky in the afternoon gives way to another round of snowfall overnight. The snow level will be 6000′ early, 2500′ around sunrise, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 500′ or less after midnight. About .3-.4” water value (WV) falls by 5pm, for a 2-3” of wet snow. Another .2” WV falls tonight, for 2-3” of dry snow. Wind will be SW 20-25 for the 24 hour period.

Friday starts off with light snowfall. Flurries continue all day and through the evening. The snow level will be 500′ or less early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 500′ or less in the evening and overnight. About .1-.2” WV falls during the day, for a couple inches of snow. Another .1” WV falls overnight, for an inch or so. Wind will be SW20-25 all day, WSW 20 in the evening, and W 25 after midnight.

Saturday looks cloudy with flurries to starts and sunny or partly cloudy from mid-morning on. The free air freezing level will be 500′ or less early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and near 0′ overnight. No measurable accumulation. Wind will be W 25 in the morning, S 5-10 in the afternoon, and light and variable overnight. Sunday looks sunny and dry with light wind.

Random Morning Thoughts

I did something totally different yesterday. I woke up early, and instead of writing a forecast, I went to the Power Station and exercised. I was getting a bit desperate and frazzled after too many 12+ hour days. Guess what? Yesterday’s long day went a lot better because it started with a bit of exercise. I was surprised.

Now, I don’t know if an early workout would impact your day in the same way. I do know that we tend to get stuck in routines. Doing the same thing over and over robs us of opportunities for growth. You don’t have to switch everything up. You don’t have to switch every day up. But can you make a compact with yourself to try something different once a month? Once a week?

Our brains get habituated to our daily activities, and if we switch things up, we’ll liven up our lives. And you want a vibrant, interesting, enlivened life, don’t you? May your life be filled with new experiences. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.
