Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

There’s not so much cheery news in the forecast for the next several days – your garden is going to be a lot happier than the ski slopes are. Lots of rain will fall on Mt. Hood, possibly interspersed with periods of snowfall.

For Thursday, the weather on the mountain looks drizzly. The snow level will be 6000′ early, 6500′ midday, and 5500′ after midnight. About 0.1” rain falls during the day. Another 0.3” rain falls overnight. Wind will be SW 10 early, SE 20 in the afternoon, and SW 20 after midnight.

It does appear that the snow level will drop just enough for a switch to snow on Friday daytime. The weather looks clear Friday night. The snow level will be 5500′ early, 5000′ during the day, and down to 2500′ under clear sky overnight. About 0.3” water value (WV) falls during the day, for 2-3” of dense new snow. Wind will be SW 15 early, SW 30 during the day, WSW 30 in the afternoon and evening, and SW 15 after midnight.

Saturday daytime should just be cloudy. Heavy rain moves in around 5pm and sticks around for … a while. The snow level will be 2500′ early under partly cloudy sky. Temps warm during the day, setting the snow level at 6500′ for the afternoon and evening. Approximately 1.0 to 1.5” rain falls overnight. Wind will be SW 15 early, SW 5-10 during the day, and WSW 40+ overnight.

Sunday looks wet and windy with model disagreement in the afternoon. Products within the models also disagree on the snow level for Sunday. It appears the snow level will bounce around, giving periods of snow and periods of rain. The snow level will be 6500′ early, may fall as low as 3500′ for a period midday, and will rise to 5500′ in the evening. About 1.4” WV falls during the day, for up to a few inches of snow and a lot of rain. Afternoon and evening precip: the GFS dries the mountain out and the Euro keeps the heavy precip going through midday Monday. Wind will be WSW 45 early, W 30 midday, W 25 in the afternoon, and SW 10 overnight.

Gorge Wind

For Thursday, there’s not much wind, but the extended forecast does contain a possible hint for Opening Day! On Thursday, we’ll start LTV, go to E 5-10 from Rooster to Viento, and then turn to W 10-13 from Stevenson to Arlington after 5pm. Friday starts with light east wind. As a front moves through the Gorge, the wind will pick up after 2pm to gusty 13-16 in the west and 22-27 from Viento to Arlington. Saturday starts with very light west wind and turns around to very light east wind. It might as well be called “calm”. Looking ahead to Tuesday, offshore high pressure and NW flow combines with low pressure in the desert for a Classic Gorge Day of 28-32 from Swell or Mosier out to Arlington. That could change, of course, as we are still several days out, but models are agreeing on Opening Day at this point.
