Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Clear sky on Mt. Hood holds through Saturday, for the most part. Snow arrives midday Sunday, falls all night, continues through Monday midday, and then dry weather returns.

For Thursday, you’ll find sun all day with a chance of some high clouds in the evening. The freezing level will be 0′ early and 6000′ in the afternoon. Wind: S to SW 10-15 all day. Friday also looks sunny. The free air freezing level will be 6000′ in the morning and 6500′ in the afternoon and evening. Wind: SW 15-20 all day turning to W 15 after midnight.

Saturday starts with high clouds as a cold front approaches. It’s possible a few flurries could fall during the day, but there’s very little moisture with this system. By the evening, the sky will be just partly cloudy. Saturday’s snow level: 6500′ early, 4500′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ overnight. Wind: W 15 early, W 5 in the afternoon, and NW 25-30 overnight.

Sunday’s the stormiest day of the next week, by far as an incoming system taps into a weak atmospheric river. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 4500-5000′ in the afternoon, and 3000′ after midnight. A trace of snow falls between 1pm and 4pm followed by 1.5” water value (WV) overnight. With temps rising to 0-2C for a period, this snow will be relatively dense. Let’s call it 9-12” of new by Sunday morning. Wind: NW 25-30 early, W 40 in the afternoon, and W 45 after midnight.

A few more inches of snow fall Monday morning before the switch turns off and leaves mostly cloudy sky in the afternoon. The snow level will be 3000′ early and 5000′ in the afternoon. Wind: W 45 in the morning fading to NW 25 in the afternoon. While there’s more uncertainty in the models after Monday, it does appear we’re in for another stretch of dry weather. Enjoy it all!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Easterlies continue for a couple more days before switching back to westerly. For Thursday, expect morning wind at 20-25 near Viento, 25-30 near Stevenson, and 30-35 near Rooster Rock. The wind will fade this afternoon to 15-20 at all those locations. River flow is 161kcfs and temp is 39 degrees. Friday starts with E 20-25. By midday, the wind will be calm, and then it will turn to very light westerly in the evening. Saturday starts with W 10-13 through the whole Gorge. The eastern Gorge backs off, leaving 13-16 from Stevenson to Hood River. Sunday’s super-nuker has faded from the forecast. It’s now down to 20-23. Sad.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.
