Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Well, it didn’t snow last night, so we’ve got wet pack on the mountain today. Most places did not freeze solid thanks to clouds overnight. Foggy weather on the slopes this morning turns clear for a bit and then partly to mostly cloudy with a few flurries. The snow level / freezing level will be 4000′ this morning, 2000′ this afternoon, and 1500′ overnight. Just a trace of snow is possible this evening. Wind: W 15-20 in the morning, NW 20-25 in the afternoon, and variable to 5mph overnight.

Friday will be partly to mostly cloudy up to about 6000′ with clear sky above that. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 1500′ in the morning, 2500′ midday, and 1000′ after midnight. Wind: variable to 5pm in the morning, NE 10 in the afternoon, and NE 20 after midnight.

Saturday will be sunny in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon. The FAF will be 1000′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 500′ overnight. Wind: NE 20 in the morning, NW 5-10 in the afternoon and NW 5-10 overnight. Sunday looks clear all day with the FAF around 2000′ and light N or NW wind.

Note on wind speeds. Different wind directions are experienced in different ways on Mt. Hood. For example, west wind at 50mph will hit the slopes and exposed ridges at W 50. SW 50 may hit the ridges at SW 50, but will likely only be SW 20 below tree line. Hence the ranges for wind. Depends where you are on the mountain. Hopefully that helps clarify.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Offshore high pressure combines with a wave offshore for moderate westerlies Thursday. We hold on to the offshore high Friday and Saturday, but don’t get much in the way of wind. For Thursday, expect 10-14 all through the Gorge to start. The wind picks up to 17-20 late morning from Stevenson to Avery with 10-13 to Rufus and light westerlies farther east. Afternoon wind turns gustier and holds at 17-20 from Rowena to Rufus with 11-14 in the western Gorge. River flow is 161kcfs, river temp is 38F, and high temp forecast is 51F. Friday starts with light westerlies and picks up to 11-14 all through the Gorge. Saturday brings westerlies at 5-10. High temp: 50F for Friday and Saturday.

Bonus Coast Forecast (north/central/south, waves; wind N unless otherwise specified). Thursday: NW15-20/15-20/30-35, W swell 8′ @ 12 seconds. Friday: 25-30/30-35/30-35, W 7′ @ 10. Saturday: 10-15/15-20/25-35, W 11 @ 11.

Coast, Jones, Coast

Done until spring, unless there’s an obvious Coast or Sauvie’s or Jones day.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Cycling

It’s too wet to ride! Don’t do it! You’ll damage the trails. If you damage the trails, people have to spend time fixing them rather than building new trails for you to ride. If you did ride the trails, the best thing you can do is 1) donate money to the Hood River Area Trail Stewards or 2) show up for every single trail work party that happens this spring.

Local Events

Please let me know about events. I often only hear about them if you folx let me know!

At 7am on Friday morning, you can get a donut and coffee for going for a run at Kickstand Coffee.
