Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
It’s Thanksgiving day morning, and there’s plenty to be thankful in the snow forecast. Models do still disagree on exact snowfall totals, but we’re honing in on up to two feet of snow over the next couple of days. Yays! Meadows is making noise about having a “preview weekend”. Not a peep from the other resorts about being open this weekend, but I did see that T-Line is hiring lifties for $11.75/hour starting wage.
For Thursday, the weather will be clear in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon and evening with light snowfall. Snow level: 3000′. Precip: 0.3” water value (WV) by 4pm, for about 3” of snow. 0.2” overnight, for about 2” of somewhat dry snow. Wind: SW 20 in the morning, SW 35 midday, WSW 30-40 afternoon and evening.
Friday looks snowy during the day and even snowier overnight as W/NW wind increases orographic snowfall. Snow level 3000′ early, 4500-5000′ between 10am and 1pm, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 1500′ after the front passes and precip ends overnight. Precip: 0.5” WV during the day, for 5-6” of regular Cascade snow. 1.0” WV overnight, for 10-12” of powder. It’s possible that late-night NW wind could add to that total, but probably not. Wind: WSW 30-35 early, W 35 in the afternoon, NW 30 overnight.
Saturday may see a few orographic snow flurries in the morning mixed with sunbreaks. The afternoon looks partly cloudy and the night looks cloudy and warmer. Snow level: 1500′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, 6500′ (sad) overnight. Total precip: just a trace, and just in the morning. Wind: NW 30 early, W 10 in the afternoon and evening.
Broad brushing the few days after that: Sunday and Monday look cloudy and warm with precip staying to the west and/or north. Relatively light wind. The next precip arrives on Tuesday with a snow level of 7500′ when the majority of the precip falls. Models disagree on the amount of precip. After that we have significant model disagreement. So… enough snow this weekend to set a good base. Beyond that: uncertainty!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Thursday will have east wind at 10-15 from Rooster to Stevenson through noon or so. The wind will go calm in the central and eastern Gorge after that with gusty, rainy 20-25 west of Bonneville. Friday starts off with light westerlies and stays that way all day. Sadly, the timing of a cold front / high pressure build has shifted to “overnight”, so the wind won’t pick up until it’s too dark to get on the river. Saturday brings west wind at 10-13 for the first half of the day with light westerlies or even light easterlies and sunshine for the second half of the day.
JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.
