Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Gorge Wind Forecast

Another round of strong desert westerlies is on tap today as a trough moves into BC and WA and high pressure builds offshore. Westerlies back way off on Friday, and easterlies arrive for Saturday and perhaps Sunday. That’ll be perfect weather for the CGW2 swap meet this Sunday at Lot 1 in Hood River. While you’re there, take the time to join CGW2, advocating for your river access!

Thursday’s details include a low opening to a trough and moving inland during the day somewhere along the Canadian border. Sadly, this won’t result in an open border. It just results in strong westerlies. Stevenson holds at 5-10 today with rain. Viento to Doug’s stays in the 11-14 range under partly to mostly cloudy sky with intermittent rain. Head anywhere between The Dalles and Boardman for 26-30 after 10am or so. River flow is 197kcfs. River temp is 57F. High temp for Hood River is 63F.

Friday starts cloudy with sprinkles in the western Gorge. High pressure building inland keeps the wind from responding strongly to the temp gradient created by the morning rain. Expect 7-10 from Stevenson to Doug’s in the morning with 12-15 in the eastern Gorge. Models suggest a few hours of 18-22 between Rufus and Arlington in the morning before the wind drops. Afternoon wind should be 10-13ish from Stevenson to Arlington. High temp: 69F.

A thermal trough invades the Willamette Valley from California. This sets up easterly gradients. The wind peaks in the morning with 15-20 between Rooster and Viento. The wind drops to E 5-10 or less in the afternoon. Areas east of Viento should see calm to glassy conditions all day. High temp: 78F. Sunday’s easterlies look lighter; most of the day will be calm in most places with temps climbing into the low 80’s. Next chance for strong westerlies: probably next Thursday.
