The next precipitation in the forecast is Monday, but precip amounts have really backed off in this run of the GFS. We’re going to have to wait and see what happens in the models over the next few days to see what will happen on Monday through Thursday of next week. Will we get hit by the atmospheric river or not?

Random Morning Thoughts
I got to thinking about New Year’s resolutions this morning as I was writing the Meadows report. Yeah, the things that cross your mind at 4:30am… Anyway, we often pick difficult things as resolutions: losing weight, quitting smoking, saving more money…
We often do this expecting willpower to carry us through. The likelihood of that happening is minimal – it hasn’t worked in the past, and it probably won’t work this time just because we picked January 1st as the start date. Repeating former actions that didn’t work the first time isn’t a productive way to go about life.
So, when committing to change, no matter the start date, do it differently than the last time. Enlist the support of friends. Tell people and ask them to hold you accountable. Find a way to make this change less about punishing yourself for being bad in the past and more about creating opportunities in the future. For example, if you want to lose weight, figure out how it will benefit you in a meaningful way – maybe you want cycling to be more fun and less hard work.
Or pick a fun change to balance out a more difficult change – maybe you want to hike to every Gorge waterfall in your process of getting more exercise. The possibilities are endless – enlist your creativity to make goal pursuit less drudgery and more fun. Have an awesome day!
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Gorge Weather Forecast
We have overcast sky this morning. That’s why it’s 20 degrees and not 5 degrees. If you are above the clouds, you might have single-digit temps. Anyway, expect a partly cloudy day eventually with temps in the mid 20’s . East wind. No rainbows. Friday looks like it’ll start off with a Nothing (watch out for freezing fog if you’re in it) and turns sunny. Temps will be somewhere between 5 and 20 in the morning, depending on cloud coverage. High temps will be in the mid to upper 20’s. East wind. No rainbows. Saturday looks partly cloudy. Temps will be near 20 early and in the upper 20’s later. Next chance for precip is Monday.
