Gorge Wind Forecast

There’s not much happening out there this morning other than ripples caused by fishing boats. Expect more of the same all day as temps in the Willy Valley beat out temps in the eastern desert. Best shot at wind will be some light easterlies in the western Gorge. Enjoy your rest day. Stronger westerlies return for Friday and Saturday followed by a more moderate day on Sunday. Starting Monday, easterlies make their first big showing of the season.

For Thursday, expect light and variable wind all day in the central and eastern gorge. Easterlies could pick up to 10mph in the west and 0-5mph from Hood River eastward. River flow is 81,700cfs, temp is 68 degrees, and high temp today is a muggy 95.

Friday sees a marine push into the Willy Valley as an offshore low drives in marine air. That offshore low combines with an even lower pressure heat low in the desert for gusty westerlies. Expect 18-22 from Viento to Swell to start with 10-13 from Hood River to Mosier. Other locations will be light to start the day. Afternoon westerlies pick up to gusty 25-28 from Stevenson to Arlington. That offshore low will be moving around. A likely result of this is less wind near Swell, so don’t bank on going there. High temp: 94.

Offshore high pressure returns on Saturday. That sets us up for 23-26 to start from Viento to Arlington. If it’s not there at dawn, it’ll be there by 11am as morning clouds burn off. Afternoon wind picks up to 26-29 from Stevenson to Rufus with a good shot at 30-35 from Rowena to Rufus. Sunday’s forecast currently looks like 21-24 from Stevenson to Hood River. After that: easterlies!

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Mt. Hood Meadows allows hiking within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.

Have an awesome day!
