Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s a cloudy start to the day on Mt. Hood. Snow starts up around 10am or so with a chance of a switch to freezing rain, sleet or rain between 4pm and 8pm, after which we’ll see more snow. The snow level will be at sea level this morning, possibly rising to 6000-6500′ between 4pm and 8pm (depends on how much cold air gets scoured out) and dropping back to the surface (in the Gorge, anyway) overnight. We’ll see .4”-.7” water value (WV) between 10am and 4pm, for 4-7” of snow. We’ll see another .5-.7” WV tonight, for 4-6” of heavy snow topped with light snow. Like I said, some of that may fall as not-snow, lowering totals. Wind today will be SE 25 all morning, switching to SW 15 around 4pm and rising to SW35 overnight. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Friday looks just-plain-snowy all day long. The snow level will be 0′ in the Gorge, rising to 2500′ in the afternoon and dropping to 1000-1500′ overnight. We’ll see .6” WV between 4am and 4pm, for 6-8” of fluffy snow. We’ll see .9” between 4pm Friday and 4am Saturday for 9-11” of fluffy snow. Remember that Meadows has night skiing on Friday and Saturday night and Skibowl is open tonight and all sorts of other nights. Wind on Friday will be SW 30 early, turning to WSW 40 in the afternoon and W 40 overnight. That westerly wind could up the snow accumulations a lot, so maybe I’m being too conservative…

Random Morning Thoughts

I think I’m already late enough getting this out, and I want to try to get to the mountain. Plus, I don’t feel like thinking. I feel like celebrating! Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy start. Expect snow after 10:30am, becoming heavy in the afternoon. It’s possible we’ll see freezing rain or sleet between 4pm and 8pm, but it’s also possible we’ll just see snow. Approximately 7” of snow will fall by Friday morning. Temps will be in the low to mid 20’s all day. East wind. No rainbows. Rainbows don’t happen in the snow.

Friday looks snowy all day with freezing rain after 9pm or so. We’ll see 4-5” of snow during the day, followed by .2-.3” of freezing rain by Saturday morning. Temps will be in the low 20’s in the morning. NOAA says 38 in the afternoon, but that’s crap. Expect upper 20’s in the afternoon and evening. East wind. No rainbows.

Saturday looks cloudy with freezing rain until at least 10am, perhaps until 4pm. Max ice accumulation of .2-.3”. We’ll see a switch to rain at some point Saturday. Temps will be in the upper 20’s to low 30’s early, rising to the upper 30’s in the afternoon, hopefully. Light wind early, light westerlies later. 25% chance of super-sick rainbows with snow in the background.

Road and Mountain Biking

If you want to ride, do it right now. Everything is frozen solid and waiting for you! The snow will start up around 10:30am, after which the trails will accumulate powder, leaving you wishing for a fat bike. Watch out for frost if you’re road biking today. After today, it will be gravel everywhere.

Upcoming Events

Icepocalypse 2016 #1? You can expect many events to be canceled today, so I’m not going to guess at what is or is not happening. In theory, the HRVHS XC team has a fundraiser run on Saturday morning at the Hood River Waterfront Park. Perhaps you can do that in snowshoes?

Have an awesome day today!
