today’s gorge wind forecast
Hi friends! Solid easterlies on tap for you today. Not much happens on Friday unless you’re up early enough to catch some marginal easterlies early in the morning. Lack lf wind doesn’t matter โ you’ll be carving pumpkins anyway! The Gorge wind forecast holds a chance of moderate westerlies on Saturday as a weather system makes its way through. Sunday: calm, probably, and dry enough to do some sort of dryland fun. Better get in your laps on the Hood River Stairs before they’re closed for three weeks for repair!
Looking at Thursday morning, we’ve got a solid offshore pressure gradient: 30.22/30.40/30.42, and easterlies are liking it. Early wind was right around 35mph at both Iwash (Rooster) Rock and Stevenson with mid 20s at Viento. Models have Rooster at 40mph this morning, Stevenson at 30-35mph, and Viento at 25mph. A slow fade starts right around noon. The day ends with 25mph at Stevenson, 30-35mph at Iwash, and 20mph at Viento with 10mph to the east of Hood River. River flow over the last 24 hours was 68-34kcfs, river temp is 57.9F, and high temp forecast is 55F. Stevenson started the day at 48F (Hood River is 33F), so plan accordingly.

tomorrow’s gorge wind forecast
East wind starts off Friday, but it’ll pretty quickly fade below the play threshhold. Expect 25mph early at Iwash Rock and 15-20mph at Stevenson with 15mph at Viento. By noon, the wind falls to 15mph and keeps falling; the day finishes up at 10mph. High temp: 56F under cloudy sky.
extended Gorge wind forecast

A cold front approaches on Saturday with plenty of rain for the west and a round of west wind. Early wind will be light and variable. Sometime in the afternoon, westerlies pick up. We’ll see gusty 19-23mph from Stevenson to Viento. Swell is really questionable, but could see a period of very up-and-down 19-23mph. It’s also possible, given the cool air in place, that Swell-Doug’s will stay windless. East of Doug’s, we’re likely to see gusty 22-25mph between Avery (or maybe Maryhill) and Arlington. Stronger wind is possible late in the day as winds aloft increase, but stronger wind is far from certain. Rain will fall most of the day west of Rowena. High temp: 59F for Hood River and 63F in the desert.
Sunday looks calm then light easterly. Monday starts with easterlies in the 25-35mph range at Iwash (too much uncertainty to be sure) and finishes calm. Models then drag us (kicking and screaming?) into a typically damp and windless November weather pattern. Looks like a great time to do some trail building! Have a great day in the easterlies. See you on the Nch’i Wana!

Good morning, neighbors! Nice start to the day out there: some color in the sky, sunlight on the snowfields, and just a touch of a few Nothing clouds in the air. It’s chilly too โ many of us are starting the day with a bit of frost. Deciduous trees like this โ so much color out there right now! Looking at the next several days, we have a dry Halloween, most likely. That’s followed by rain Saturday west of The Dalles and dry weather into part of Monday. Beyond that: typically showery and cool November weather with the snow level (unfortunately) remaining above 5000′ for most of the foreseeable future.
Glenwood this morning
Visiting our dear friends in Glenwood this morning, we see a very chilly start: 25 degrees. They’re all back to knitting those Bernie Sanders meme mittens. Know what else they’re all doing? Getting food handlers cards so they can help feed the hungry in the additional soup kitchens that people are organizing.

Today’s Gorge weather forecast
Weather today: not great for an online course, but these courses are quick and can be done in the sub-freezing morning hours while you mainline coffee. Why not great? It’s an OUTSIDE day! A few high clouds linger today, all the way into the evening, when they’re likely to transform to a stunning, spectacular sunset. Temps today max out in the mid 50s most places with The Dalles pushing 60. East wind will be 40mph near Iwash (pen*s) Rock this morning and 30-35mph this afternoon. Stevenson sees 35mph east wind this morning and 25-30mph wind later. Up in the hills, easterlies will be 10-20mph. Clouds move in tonight.
Halloween Gorge weather forecast
Friday starts with a deep layer of clouds. Those clouds thin out but don’t disappear west of the Cascades in the afternoon. If we get lucky, they’ll thin out enough for the sun to peek through and give us evening colors. Friday’s temps start in the low to upper 30s. Temps finish in the mid 50s. We’ll have east wind, again, but not nearly as strong as on Thursday. In the evening, the wind fades to 10mph or less even in Stevenson and near the nude beach at exit 25, which will be a nice respite for all.
Saturday’s Gorge weather forecast
A cold front taps into an atmospheric river and sends rain our way on Saturday. Models currently hold the rain west of Wishram, but they do keep it going pretty much all day. If you’re driving through the western Gorge gauntlet (west of Cascade Locks), expect very heavy rain and tricky driving conditions all day long. Thanks to the warmth of this system and the air mass turning over like a pancake being flipped, temps will actually be up over Thursday/Friday: the day starts in the 40s and finishes at 59-63F in the lowlands. Light and variable wind in the morning gives way to moderate westerlies, which leads to clouds breaking up and rainbows moving in.
Extended Gorge weather forecast
Sunday looks dry, calm, and 60 degrees. Monday brings back the east wind and probably some afternoon/evening/nighttime rain. Beyond that: showery and cool, but not cold, pretty much as far out as the models care to comment. It’s November, the wettest month of the year. Yippee! Yippee? For Hood River we have these stats for November: 58% of days have some precipitation; average monthly precip is 7.3โ, and it’s DARK. Yup. It’s almost time to set the clocks back. I’m crying. But hey, at least it’s almost the season when we Make Bedtime Eight Again. Safe travels. -TATAS
