Gorge Wind Forecast

This is the Thursday/Friday forecast for the Gorge. The general picture is for not much wind at all on Thursday followed by very gusty, moderate westerlies Friday and easterlies that build from nothing Saturday morning to the plenty-of-wind range midday Saturday. Sunday brings another round of gusty west wind along with heavy morning rain.

For Thursday, the morning starts out light and variable. As a weather system slowly, very slowly approaches from the NW, the wind will go calm and the rain will start to fall. That’s it for Thursday. Friday sees that weather system move through, a setup that will give us gusty westerlies. Heavy rain in the morning accompanies far-west (like Multnomah Falls area) westerlies at 15-20 with light wind everywhere else. After noon or so, the wind will pick up to gusty 18-22 from Stevenson to The Dalles with gusty 22-25 from Avery to Rufus, maybe as far east as Arlington. Did I mention that it’ll be gusty and unreliable? Well, it will!

Looking at Saturday, high pressure builds inland. The day starts light and variable. By mid-morning, we should be seeing easterlies at 15-20 near Viento, 20-25 near Stevenson, and 30-35 near Rooster Rock. Sunday brings another round of heavy rain in the morning. As that system moves through, the wind will pick up to gusty 23-27 east of Mosier.

BONUS: Jones Thursday-Saturday: no. Sauvie’s Thursday-Saturday: no. Coast (north/central/south). Thursday: S20-25/S15-20/LTS, W swell 14′ at 13 seconds. Friday: LTV everywhere, W swell 12′ at 12 seconds. Saturday: LTS everywhere. W 8′ @ 11.
