It’s cloudy on Mt. Hood this Thursday morning with strong winds and snow flurries in the wake of a big storm last night. Although the mountain did receive some snow, that was followed by rain, and then topped with more snow. So, it’s hard to make a judgment about today’s conditions, but hey, what else do you have to do other than ride? Oh, right, a lot. You’re like me – busy! Anyway, expect this cloud cover to break mid-morning, leaving us with partly cloudy sky and intermittent flurries, all the way through this evening. The snow level today will be 5000′ early, dropping to 4000′ in the afternoon and evening. We might see an inch or two of new snow by tonight, at best. Wind will be W 30 early, turning to SW20-25 by noon and staying that way for the evening. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…
Friday starts out clear, but quickly turns cloudy. Snow flurries start up around 10am and continue in light, on-and-off style through Saturday morning. The snow level Friday will be 4500′ early, 5500′ midday, and 5000′ overnight. It’s possible, although unlikely, that we’ll see some mixed precip midday. Whether we do or not, we’re only going to see .2” water value (WV) or less between 4am Friday and 4am Saturday, for less than 2” of new snow. Wind Friday will be SW 10-15 in the morning, rising to SW 20-25 in the afternoon and evening.

See below for details.
Saturday starts off cloudy, quickly becoming snowy. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning, 4000′ midday, and 1500′ overnight. We’ll see .7” WV between 7am and 4pm, for 6-7” of new snow. We’ll see another .4” WV between 4pm Saturday and 5am Sunday, for 4-5” of lighter, fluffier snow. Wind on Saturday will be SW 20 early, rising to SW 30 during the morning, and dropping to SW 20 in the afternoon and evening.
Sunday starts off with flurries and see heavy snowfall after 11am or so. It’s possible this may be mixed with rain for a period. We’re going to have to wait a day to see how this shakes out, because it depends on the actual path of an incoming low pressure system.

Random Morning Thoughts
One of my friends from my Hakomi training sent me an email last night asking me how it was being super vulnerable and real in front of the entire group (it was a child state thing involving tears and peek-a-boo… made perfect sense at the time!). Even though it sounds really silly and weird to be in such a state in front of a large group, I’m cool with it, and that got me thinking about why.
Authenticity is tricky, right? We all want to be accepted for who we are, and most of us are afraid of being rejected for who we are. The thing is, the more authentic we are, the more true to our core selves we are, the more other people will trust us and be drawn to us. After all, we can sense when other people are being honest, and we all want to be around honest people. Trust is important. When we’re being authentic, we’re not hiding anything, and that makes us trustworthy.
However, it’s a big leap of faith to trust in that knowledge, to trust that people will like us more if we’re authentic and real and obviously not hiding anything. Why? Because when we’re real, we’re exposed and vulnerable. You’re doing this already with your closest friends. Try doing it with someone else, not someone who has the power to hurt you emotionally. But someone you trust. See what happens. Here’s the thing – when we learn that it’s safe to be who we are, we are more likely to be who we are more of the time. It’s a positive feedback loop. Give it a shot and see what happens, and have an awesome day.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
It’s looking mighty lovely out there this morning, and that gets me thinking that you might find some nice dirt if you ride up Maui and down Moab. And up Maui and down Moab. And … you get the picture. Given yesterday’s rain, that’s the most likely combo of trails to not suffer horribly from your tires. Out on the road, you can expect a dry and sunny morning with a pretty good chance of showers this afternoon. Tomorrow looks cloudier and possibly wetter, but not wet enough to make the trails worse. Just wet enough to keep them wet. Remember that there is a trail work party on Saturday at 9am at Family Man.
Upcoming Events
Coming up this evening, the Telluride Mountain Film Festival is happening in Portland. Here in the Gorge, we have community yoga at 6pm at Samadhi and Zumba at 6:30pm at the Parkdale Community Center. Tomorrow morning is the Kickstand Coffee run at 7am at, duh, Kickstand Coffee. 4.1 miles of jogging gets you a free cup of coffee and a donut. Tomorrow night at 6:30pm, there’s an aniti-hate candlelight vigil at 2nd and State streets in Hood River in response to the attack on Kozen, a Buddhist monk, and other racially/hate motivated events in Hood River.
Coming up Saturday, the HRATS have a trail work party at Family Man at 9am. Big Winds has a SUP demo and other stuff happening at the Nichols Boat Basin from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday. The we set the clocks ahead (and lose an hour of sleep) on Saturday night.
Have an awesome day today!
