Random Morning Thoughts
I was driving home from school last night in the pouring rain. When I glanced in my rearview mirror, I noticed that there was only one taillight reflecting off my bicycle. That wasn’t the case yesterday when I was driving in the pouring rain, so it must have burned out in the intervening 24 hours. I said a bad word out loud, and made a mental note to replace the lights in the morning.
Since Hood River’s Finest are the finest, I got pulled over on the way home. It wasn’t really a surprise, merely an annoyance, because I was more interested in sleep than in meeting another of the nice local officers.
What I am most irritated about is the fact that I have another task to add to my busy day, and that the task can’t be put off, or I’ll get pulled over again today, HR’s Finest being the finest! This gets me thinking about to-do lists in general. I often notice myself putting mental energy towards a task that I can’t complete in the moment. For example, I need to get out into my garden and do some cleanup and arranging. This task pops into my mind every day, and since it’s important, it takes some energy.
I’m pretty sure we all do this, and that our endless lists sap energy from other tasks. I’m gonna make a proposal here for all of us: pick that task that you keep thinking about and schedule it. Set aside the time you’ll need to complete it and commit to getting it done. See if that keeps it from popping into your head and adding to your stress level. Just for fun – we’re all running an experiment here. I’m doing my garden on Sunday afternoon, rain or shine. When are you doing your task? Have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking
Still too muddy to ride anything other than Syncline. The roads, once they dry out, should be okay today, with a few sprinkles possible but no wind at all. Friday looks cloudy with light wind, so that’ll be nice for riding.
