Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. SHORT-TERM gorge wind forecast

Hey friends! Fun day on the river yesterday – the Hatch made it into the low 20s, and Rufus way over-performed with 30mph. Our plan for the next few days is westerlies Thursday and Friday with easterlies Saturday and Sunday.

Today we started with pressures of 30.39/30.31/30.26 for gradients of 0.08 and 0.05. Wind was generally light and variable, but Viento was showing signs of what’s to come with a 19mph reading at dawn. We’ll see a slow build on the west side to 15-18mph from Viento to the Hatch this morning. Between Hood River and Rufus, the wind will be lighter to start the day. From Philippi Canyon eastward, we should see 18-22mph this morning. By early afternoon, you’ll find 19-22mph from Stevenson to The Dalles with the eastern Gorge dropping off to 13-16mph. The hig-res model suggests Rufus could rise to the mid 20s late afternoon or early evening, but that’s a low-probability outcome.

River flow over the last 24 hours was 185-201kcfs (191-201kcfs at Rufus), river temp is 41.5F, and high temp forecast is 50F with partly cloudy sky early then sunshine.

Friday starts off with 16-19at Viento with partly cloudy sky in Hood River. By mid-morning, we’ll have westerlies at 20-23mph from Viento to Hood River with 14-17mph at Mosier and Stevenson and lighter wind to the east. Once the clouds burn off in the afternoon, the wind drops to 16-19mph and fills in from Stevenson to Hood River. High temp: 54F with sunshine.

Saturday sees easterlies return. The day starts with 20mph at Stevenson and 15mph at Iwash/Rooster Rock. The wind rises to 25-30mph at both locations mid-morning before dropping to 20-25mph in the afternoon. High temp: 51F with mostly cloudy sky. On Sunday, easterlies linger: the day starts with 30mph at the usual spots and drops to 15mph. High temp: 57F (!!!) and sunny. Monday looks light easterly. High temp: 60F (!!!) and sunny! Have fun on the river, friends
