The Forecast

Gorge Wind Forecast

Before we jump into the wind forecast today, I’d like to ask you to help some readers of this forecast. Ellene and Glenn Yorks lost everything in one of the southern Oregon fires. If you take three minutes right now to donate $10 or more to the GoFundMe for them, it’ll be fully funded this morning, and you’ll feel awesome for having done a good deed!

West flow of some sort continues over the next few days, but it’ll be most noticeable on Saturday. For Thursday, we’ll have light and variable wind with a light westerly gradient in the morning. The wind may pick up to 9-12 this evening from Stevenson to Mosier, and we could also see some strong and gusty wind develop along with thunderstorms in the evening. River flow: 81,500cfs. Temp 66.

Friday starts with westerlies at 8-11 through the whole Gorge (unless thunderstorms are present). Afternoon wind picks up to 10-13 in the west and 13-16 east of The Dalles. Models suggest stronger wind, but they’re also relying on heating that won’t be present. Thanks, smoke. Saturday starts with light westerlies in the west and 12-15 east of The Dalles. Afternoon wind, thanks to offshore high pressure, picks up to 7-10 in the west and 19-23 from The Dalles to Arlington. As of this morning, Sunday looks light and variable early with light to moderate westerlies in the afternoon.

Didn’t make a contribution to help the Yorks yet? Go ahead and do it now that the forecast is lodged in your brain! Here’s the link again.

The Port of Hood River is offering up the Event Site, Lot 1, and the Marina parking for wildfire evacuees. I’m not sure how many people are taking advantage of that, but perhaps you can take them food and n95 masks. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).
