Gorge Wind Forecast

Offshore low pressure and inland instability continues the trend of gusty and unpredictable westerlies. Thursday gradients started at .01 and .07 with light and variable wind all the way through the Gorge. We’ll see the wind field organize a bit this afternoon, but atmospheric instability and a chance of thunder will likely disrupt the quality and consistency. That said, afternoon wind looks like 7-10 in the west, gusty 18-21 from Rowena to Rufus, and 5-8 east of there. River flow is 155kcfs and temp is 63 degrees.

Friday sees that low start to move inland while another one sets up near Vancouver Island. Wind starts out light westerly, meaning 5mph or so. After 2pm, as that low starts to move, the wind picks up to gusty 14-17 from Stevenson to Rufus with 5-10 farther east. Instability will again be a concern on Friday, so don’t bank on the predictions!

Another low pressure system drops along the coast during the day Saturday. Gradients will be minimal in response. The day starts out nearly calm. Afternoon westerlies pick up to 12-15 from Stevenson to The Dalles due to desert heating. Sunday’s forecast is currently a light and variable morning with westerlies at 18-22 in the central Gorge in the afternoon.
