Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Thursday morning, and the forecast contains moderate westerlies for the next few days. If east winds are your thing, it’s looking like you’ll have them for several days next week.

For Thursday, a weak warm front will move into northern WA as a low pressure system approaches Vancouver Island. This is on the tails of a departing cold front that’s left variable westerlies all the way out to Arlington. 6Am gradients were .07 and .05, but those will probably back off out east as the day goes on. So, we’ll have upper teens to low twenties east of Avery this morning. Wind east of John Day Dam will back off to 12-15 this afternoon. In the western Gorge, we start with 24-27 from Viento to Swell and end up with 17-20 from Stevenson to Avery, possibly Rufus. River flow is 72,400cfs and temp is 65 degrees.

Friday starts off sunny and calm. A cold front approaching in the afternoon drives clouds and gusty westerlies into the Gorge. Light and variable wind early picks up to gusty 17-21 from Stevenson to Avery in the afternoon. Saturday looks showery in the western Gorge. Westerlies shift eastward as a result. 10-13 looks like the call from Stevenson to Rowena. The Dalles to Arlington sees 22-25 in the afternoon. Sunday is looking like a pretty good setup for steady westerlies. The current forecast from both models is 24-27 from Stevenson to The Dalles in the afternoon. Monday through Thursday is looking like east wind.

BONUS: Jones the next three days: no. Same for Sauvie’s: nada. Coast (north/central/south). Thursday: SW5/N5/25-30, W swell 3′ at 10 seconds. Friday: S15/X/N10-15, W 4′ @ 8. Saturday: W5/W5/N5-10, W 8′ @ 10.
