There’s a lot of sunshine but no new snow in the forecast for Mt. Hood, and that’s great news – it leaves us set up for spring skiing and corn snow this week. Remember, Meadows is closed Monday through Thursday this week, but Timberline will still be there for you. Speaking of, Timberline hosts the YoBeat snowboard long jump today, and Meadows has the Popina Suits and Boots swimwear events. We all love cheap lift tickets, right? The first 100 people to show up at Meadows in swimwear today get a $10 lift ticket. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…
The weather on the mountain today will be warm and sunny. The free air freezing level will be 13,000′. 5000′ temps will max out around 53 degrees. Wind will be light and variable this morning and SE 15 this afternoon. Oh, one more thing: Meadows is planning on opening Superbowl today. If you haven’t done that hike before, it’s well worth it. You’ll need a beacon, shovel, probe and partner to hike.

Tuesday looks identical to Monday. Wednesday also looks warm and sunny to start, but some high clouds move in during the afternoon. As of right now, it’s looking like we’ll see some rain on the mountain both Thursday and Friday.

Gorge Wind Forecast
It’s a (relatively) warm and windy start to Sunday, with the easterlies blasting through the Ditch. You can expect east wind at 30-40 at Rooster this morning with 25-30 at Stevenson by mid-morning. The wind will fade a little bit this afternoon, backing off to 20-25 at Rooster and 20ish at Stevenson. The rest of the Gorge, from Viento eastward, will see east wind at 7-11 this afternoon, maybe even a touch more, especially in the upper valleys.
Monday starts off with east wind at 20-25 at Rooster and 15-20 at Stevenson. After 2pm, the wind will drop to E 10-15 at those western Gorge beaches with just a touch of an easterly breeze everywhere else. Tuesday looks like east wind at 5-10 all day long in the western Gorge with calm wind elsewhere. Looking ahead to Wednesday, our anticipated marine push keeps moving later and later. As of this morning, it looks like Wednesday will start off with just a touch of a westerly, picking up to 24-28 after 3pm. I wouldn’t put any money on that forecast yet… let’s wait a few days and see what happens.
Random Morning Thoughts
I realized last night that I’ve had my little Strava cat for a year now. In that year, I started grad school, completed a Hakomi training, and created entire new circles of friends. There are a lot of good memories in this past year, and some not so good too.
We spend a lot of time just moving through life, but I’m wondering this morning about doing so more consciously. Seems like the things that stick in my memory are deeply meaningful in some way: they touch my heart, connect me with others, impart a painful lesson… It seems like if we spend a little time sorting the past year, we can figure out what’s meaningful to us – after all, our memory records what has the most impact.
Our past can become a road map of the future. We can pursue more of what we remember, because those are the things that have the most meaning to us. Maybe it’s a silly idea, but it just occurred to me. By this logic, I’m going to spend more time in the next year meeting new people, taking trainings where I can bring my whole, vulnerable self, and doing silly, ridiculous, #GorgeNormal things outside (like riding my bike to school and running through fountains on campus).
Sure, on some level we know what’s important to us. But our thoughts of what’s important don’t always match our nervous system’s sorting. So… just for fun… make a list of what you think is important to you. Check your memories of the last year and see if they jibe with your list. If not, think about why. It’s a fun task for a sunny day. Have an awesome day!
