For Sunday, offshore high pressure at 1031mb combines with a weak troughy low off the coast of Vancouver Island for a long-lasting marine layer over the metro area. This starts out day with 14-17 from Viento to Hood River with 10-13 east and west of there. By mid to late morning, westerlies rise to 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles. Afternoon wind will likely back off between Viento and Swell, dropping to 18-21. Stevenson stays at 21-24, and Hood River to Avery pick up to 23-26. Rufus might make it to 13-16, but the wind looks lighter east of there. River flow is way down – 208kcfs – and temp is 62 degrees.
A trough moves inland on Monday, likely locking in the clouds for the metro area most of the day. With strong high pressure offshore and a heat low in the desert, we’re looking at a very windy day. Expect 21-24 from Viento to Mosier to start (you may have to wait for the clouds to burn off for Swell to catch up). Other locations will be in the 13-16 range early. By late morning, the wind builds to 28-32 from Viento to Rufus. In the afternoon, it appears the wind will shift east and rise to 30-34 from Mosier to Arlington. The Viento to Swell stretch will likely drop to gusty 21-25. Stevenson maxes out at 24-27, holding through the evening, because it’s Stevenson. Central Gorge high temp: 75.
That trough sticks around on Tuesday and keeps the western Gorge in clouds all day. You’ll find 14-17 all day in the west. East of The Dalles, the day starts at 23-26 and rises to 28-32 from Doug’s to Threemile in the afternoon. Central Gorge high temp: 70.

Coast (north/central/south – swell forecast provided by NWS. Wind northerly except as noted). Sunday: NW5-10/NW10/N25-30, SW swell 2′ @ 17 seconds and NW 3′ @ 11 seconds. Monday: W5/NW5/N10-15, SW 2′ @ 15 and NW 3′ @ 11. Tuesday: W5/LTW/N20-25, SW 2′ @ 14. Jones Sunday: 22-26. Monday: 12-15. Tuesday: LTW. Sauvie Island Sunday: 14-17. Monday: 14-17. Mt. Hood Meadows is now allowing uphill travel within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Black Lives Matter. I say that with no reservations and no caveats, and I stand with Black, indigenous, and other people of color against structural racism, against mass incarceration, against police violence, against unequal treatment, against outright racism, and against any other sorts of targeted behaviors or systems. These values (and yes, some people hold them as values) remain entrenched in our society in subtle and not-so subtle ways. I challenge you to learn to see them so that you can learn to undo them. We can’t undo the damage that’s been done, and we don’t have the right to ask for forgiveness, but we can work to create a more equitable world going forward.
