For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. Gorge Wind Forecast

This morning is starting out with light and variable wind. Eventually that will steady out to E 5-10 through the whole Gorge, more likely to impact your road biking than get you on the water. Monday starts off with light west wind. As an upper level low moves into Washington, the westerlies will pick up. We’ll see W 12-15 from Stevenson to Mosier under cloudy sky with sprinkles. East of Mosier, the wind will pick up to gusty W 23-26 after noon. Tuesday currently looks like E 20-25 at Rooster Rock all day long.

Random Morning Thoughts

I was at a half-day meditation workshop-retreat yesterday. Sometimes interesting things will pop into my mind as I’m meditating – it’s one of the mind’s ways of entertaining itself rather than staying on the task at hand. Anyway, I found myself wondering how our minds functioned before we had words, both as a species and as individuals.

It’s clear that the near-constant stream of thoughts distracts us from our present-moment experience; as our minds quiet, there’s just more bandwidth for noticing the details of what’s happening right here, right now. You’ve experienced that, right, in a peaceful moment as you watch a sunset or a rainbow or a bald eagle soaring?

We can train our minds to be less chattery, and in so doing, we naturally will be more present in the moment. This is a long process, but it starts with becoming aware of all the noise in our head space. Not criticizing that noise, mind you. Just noticing. You can greet it: “hi, noise!”. You can label it: “worrying”. Just don’t get swept up in it. Or do get swept up (it’ll happen), and when you notice that’s happened, give yourself a pat on the back for noticing.

All those words streaming through your mind, that’s probably not your natural state of being. If nothing else, it’s distracting you farom fully experiencing the short time you have on this planet. Maybe take some time to develop a better relationship with all those words in your mind. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
