As predicted, the wind gods smiled upon Kiteboarding for Cancer once again. See, this is what doing good deeds brings: good wind karma. This morning’s gradients are lighter than yesterday due to low pressure along the coast: .06 (pdx-dls) and .03 (dls-psc) with 67 degree water and 152kcfs at The Dalles Dam. We’ll see 12-15 this morning at Swell and Mosier with 5-10 at Stevenson and 10-13 everywhere else. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…
The afternoon forecast today is quite tricky, as we’re likely to see building thunderstorms. If the wind models are correct, we’ll see westerlies slowly build to a max of 18-22 today, strongest from Stevenson to Mosier. The further east you go today, the more likely you’ll be to end up under thunderclouds. So, sticking close to home is a good idea, and getting off the water if you see lightning is also a good idea.

Monday starts off under muggy southerly flow, setting up another potential round of thunderstorms. That, once again, makes the wind forecast tricky. Models say we’ll have 22-25 from Viento to Arlington from Dawn Patrol to midday. That’s really dependent on whether the atmosphere is stable or not. In the afternoon, we’re likely to see 24-28 from Mosier to Rufus, maybe at Swell, maybe not, as the atmosphere stabilizes a bit.
The pesky low pressure system causing the instability moves inland on Tuesday. That’ll start us off with 5-10 in the western Gorge and 10-13 in the eastern Gorge. Models suggest we’ll see 17-20 everywhere in the afternoon. Wednesday currently looks like 15-18 early with 23-26 in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts
One of the fun parts about training to be a therapist is the inward searching for stability and solidity. As humans, we are wired to connect with and resonate with others. As therapists, we resonate, but we also need to stay rooted to our unwavering core in the middle of emotional storms. To do that, we (all of us, really), need to know how to get back to that solid place when our worlds wobble.
It’s easy to know when we’re not in that stable place. Our bodies give strong signals that we’re upset: our hearts race, our muscles tense, we sweat, we feel hot or cold or tingly. Queasiness or a heavy feeling in the chest warns us that something is wrong. These signals are clear, loud, and unmistakable.
Finding bodily signals of solidity is trickier, but if we can find them, we can be happier and more solid more of the time. The trick is that our warning signals are much louder – we’re wired for survival, not so much for actualization (the fulfillment of our greatest potential). We have to search hard for those quiet bodily signals of safety and solidity.
I don’t know what your sense of solidity and peacefulness feels like. Only you can sort that out. But if you can understand deeply what it is to feel solid, you can pull that feeling up in the middle of your storms. It’s not windy right now. You have nothing to do for the next five minutes. Check it out and see if you can find some tiny little sense of solidity in yourself. Bookmark it, and come back to it the next time you’re wobblier than an underpowered windsurfer. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be in 700 days). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s mostly clear on this fine, muggy Sunday morning (62 degrees and 67 percent humidity). Above us are little fluffy convective clouds of various sorts. Models predict a solid chance of thunder this evening through tomorrow morning, so be prepared! Temps will be in the low 60’s this morning and low 80’s this afternoon with high humidity (close your windows!). Moderate wind. 17% chance of rainbows.
Monday starts out with lots of convective debris and a sweet-ass sunrise. Temps will be in the (muggy) low 60’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Moderate to strong wind. 14% chance of rainbows. Tuesday looks partly cloudy. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and the upper 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, moderate later. 1% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
Nothing new to report here. Pretty much everything is open in mountain bike land, with the exception of 7 trees down on Gunsight and the potential for more than that on Gumjuwac. All your road rides are open. We don’t have news on Smith Creek or Huffman Peak, mostly because I don’t have the time to check Strava and see if they’ve been ridden.
Upcoming Events
Today’s the final day of Kiteboarding for Cancer, with the Never-Ever-Kiteboarded Race at 11am – first 15 people to sign up get to take part. The Relay on the Green race is at 1pm, and remember, only kiters may launch from the Event Site today.
