Gorge Wind Forecast

The weather has transitioned into a more fall-like pattern, at least for a bit. Various fronts and weather systems will impact the Northwest, leading to gusty westerlies through the Gorge. Looking at Sunday, we have a weak cold front traveling eastward to start the day. Gradients at 7am were 0.06 and 0.01, and westerlies were maxed at 10-13 from Viento to Swell. They’ll build slowly today. By early afternoon, you’ll find 20-23 from Stevenson to Mosier with 14-17 to Rowena and light wind to the east. Models suggest a late afternoon or early evening bump to 22-25 from Viento to Rufus. It’s likely Swell will drop to 17-20 from mid to late afternoon on. River flow is 65,200cfs, river temp is 69F, and high temp forecast is 77F.

We’ll be between weather systems on Monday morning, which might just make the wind a bit less gusty. In the afternoon, an offshore front starts to affect wind quality. Expect 15-18 from Viento to Mosier to start the day with 8-11 everywhere else. Mid-morning westerlies rise to 21-24 from Stevenson to Mosier. Get it while you can. Models suggest the wind will fall off in the afternoon to gusty 18-22 from Stevenson to The Dalles and 10-13 to the east. High temp: 73F.

An approaching front and decreasing offshore pressure knock the wind down on Tuesday. The day starts with a promising burst of 15-18 from Viento to Mosier, but it quickly falls to 10-13. Late in the afternoon, the wind responds to an approaching cold front by rising to gusty 14-17 from Stevenson to The Dalles. High temp: 79F. Rest of the week: mid-20’s for Wednesday, teens for Thursday, and light wind on Friday.
