Winter Pledge Drive – Support this forecast!

Thank you for using this forecast. I do it as a gift to the community because I want all of you to have more fun in your lives. We’re all busy people, and having an idea of when the snow, wind or dirt will be good allows us to plan ahead. Although I receive occasional support from advertisers, the bulk of my support comes from the generosity of my readers. If you’ve been using this for years, if it’s helpful, brings more fun into your life, or makes you happier in some way, please donate. $12.34 or more gets the forecast delivered to your inbox for a year (I’ll protect your info). Anything over that makes both of us feel appreciative and appreciated, and also pays my grad school bills. Thanks for using the forecast, and thanks for your support. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast.

There are some wispy high clouds above the slopes this morning, but those should dissipate later, leaving us with a sunny day. The free air freezing level will be around 7000′ all day long, and the wind will be light and variable.

Monday looks a lot like Sunday, only a bit warmer: the free air freezing level will be 9000′ early and 10,000′ in the afternoon. The wind on Monday will be at 10mph out of the east in the morning and 15mph out of the SE in the afternoon.

Tuesday looks clear and sunny. The free air freezing level will be 9000′ in the morning and 10,000′ in the afternoon. The wind will be S 10 early and SSW 15 in the afternoon.

Wednesday looks rather warm and wet. The snow level will be 10,000′ all day. Rain starts up around 7am and continues on through Thursday morning. At this point, it’s looking like about an inch of rain will fall on the slopes, but that could shift as we get closer. Wind on Wednesday will be SW 25-30 all day. Looking at the rest of the week, there are a few inches of snow in the forecast, but not a ton.

Gorge Wind Forecast

East wind at 35 this morning picks up to 40 this afternoon and 50 overnight. Expect east wind at 50mph near Rooster all day Monday. Tuesday starts off with easterlies at 50mph and backs off to 40mph in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts

I was looking through my birthday cards last night (thanks, everyone!), and thinking about certain relatives’ choice to not acknowledge my birthday this year. I have my own interpretation of why they did this, but that’s not the point.

Sometimes we do petty things, thinking something along the lines of, “That’ll show ’em!” While I’d argue that attempting to get revenge in this way only causes us emotional pain, there’s another point to consider when we act out: the person we’re attempting to hurt might not experience our attempted strike in the way we intend.

In other words, our attempts to hurt may not actually hurt the person. They may just cause the person to feel concern or compassion for us. Rather than driving the person away, we may actually pull the person closer! This, of course, is not always the case, but it’s one possible outcome.

So, next time you’re about to lash out, consider that the person might not be hurt by your anger. It might only be you getting hurt, and that will only add to your misery. See if you can reach out and talk instead – it’s scary and can leave you feeling vulnerable, but it might just make you feel better than an attack. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

There’s a thin layer of high clouds above, but that’s supposed to go away, leaving us with a sunny day. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and the low 40’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Monday has a higher likelihood of a Nothing to start the day, but we should see clear sky for most of the day. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and the upper 30’s in the afternoon. Tuesday looks a lot like Monday.

Road and Mountain Biking

Your trainer bike will be happy to see you today. And so will your XC skis. Sounds like Dirty Fingers has given up – they’re taking the shop ride to Portland on Sunday this week so they can actually ride bikes.

Upcoming Events

Yoga at Samadhi at 9am, ping pong at the Armory at 10am, meditation at Flow at 11am, pickup touch rugby at the Mosier School at 3pm, YogaFaith at Pure Yoga in The Dalles at 4pm, and restorative yoga at Pure Yoga in Hood River at 6pm. The Cold Lap cyclocross ride will be taking place in Portland at Sellwood Cycles today, because it’s actually possible to go on a cross ride in Portland right now.

Have an awesome day today!
