Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

We’re headed into several days of warm and sunny weather on the mountain, which makes this forecast quite simple. For today, the free air freezing level (FAF) will be 2000′ early and 5500′ in the afternoon. Wind will be light northerly. Monday through Wednesday will be warm. The FAF will be around 11,000′ with light and variable wind. As of right now, the weather looks to remain warm through the weekend with east wind on the mountain, but that, of course, could change.

Random Morning Thoughts

You’ll have to go to my Facebook page for my thoughts this morning. I posted quite a rant about climate change and the fact that we aren’t doing anything to stop it.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Gorge Wind Forecast

We’ll start this summery stretch with a few days of east wind as a heat low sets up over the Willamette Valley. That’ll be followed by a few days of extra-strong, extra-gusty, up-and-down west wind. For Sunday, the wind will be light and variable. Monday starts with E 10-15 from Rooster to Viento. The wind picks up to E 20-25 from Rooster to Viento with 5-10 east of there. Tuesday starts with E 30-35 from Rooster to Stevenson with 15-20 near Viento. In the afternoon, the wind backs off to E 10-15.

The heat low shifts east on Thursday as low pressure, a front of some sort, and colder air move into the west side of the state in the afternoon. This pattern continues on Friday with the addition of high pressure building in the NE Pacific. While this isn’t an ideal setup do to the low pressure near the S. Oregon Coast, it’s still going to generate 20 degree cross-Cascade temp gradients. That should be enough for gusty west wind at 27-33 through the entire Gorge. Let’s keep an eye on this, shall we. River temp is 48 degrees.

Gorge Weather Forecast

Today is the unofficial start to summer. We’ll have clear sky and warm temps for the next several days. For Sunday, temps start in the upper 30’s and rise to the upper 60’s. Light and variable wind. No rainbows. Monday will be sunny. Temps start in the mid 40’s and rise to the low 70’s. East wind. No rainbows. Tuesday will be sunny with upper 40’s early and upper 70’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Ditto on Thursday. After that, we’ll see a pattern change with a return to onshore flow and massive cross-cascade temp gradients.
