Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s Sunday, and it’s starting out cloudy on Mt. Hood. Don’t you worry your little heart – snow will be arriving soon! The snow level will be around 4500′ today and 2500′ after midnight. We’ll see about .4” water value (WV) between 11am when the snow starts and 5pm, for 3-4” of regular old Mt. Hood snow. We’ll see another .3” WV of lighter snow overnight, for a few inches of additional accumulation. Wind today will be SW 20 early, SW 30 in the afternoon, and W 20 after midnight.

Monday looks snowy in the morning, snowy with sunbreaks in the afternoon, and clear for a short while overnight before clouds move back in. The snow level will be 3000′ during the day on Monday, dropping to 1500′ after midnight. We’ll see a couple inches of new snow on Monday before the snowfall turns to sunbeams. Wind on Monday will be W 20 all day long.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Tuesday sees a weather system pass to the north of the Columbia, probably just resulting in a cloudy, precip-free day on Mt. Hood. It is possible some light snow flurries will occur in the morning. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 5000′ in the afternoon, and 9000′ by dawn on Wednesday. Wind on Tuesday will be WNW 20 all day, becoming SW 20 after midnight.

Wednesday looks rainy on Mt. Hood. The snow level will be 9000′ in the morning, 8000′ in the afternoon, and 6000′ in the wee hours of Thursday. The GFS and Euro are disagreeing on the exact track of the incoming weather. The Euro has us in the rain bullseye early in the day, and the GFS keeps the heavy rain to the north until the afternoon. For now, the best we can say is that it will be rainy on Mt. Hood on Wednesday, with heavy rain at least in the afternoon and evening. As of today, it does look like we’ll see snowfall return on Thursday, but models disagree on the amount of new snow.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Expect east wind at 5-10 this morning with light and variable wind elsewhere. The wind will switch to W 5-10 through the whole Gorge this afternoon. Monday looks like W 10-13 everywhere to start the day. In the afternoon, we should see W 12-15 in the western Gorge with W 22-25 east of The Dalles. Tuesday looks like W 10-13. Keep an eye on Thursday for the potential for strong westerlies.

Random Morning Thoughts

I spent yesterday morning exploring dirt roads on my road bike with a good friend. We were in Mosier, and there wasn’t much traffic out there, so we saw lots of cool stuff: wildflowers, a huge cow, sheep, goats, hawks, snow, and some really cold raindrops.

There were probably ten times during the ride that we looked at each other and proclaimed how lucky we felt to have access to such beautiful riding right in our own backyard. Now, I don’t mean to harp on y’all, but it’s really, really important to appreciate whatever you can in your life. Not only is it helpful to appreciate it, but it’s important to actually take a moment or two to fully focus on the thing you’re appreciating.

Speaking of appreciative, holy shit the sunrise outside my window is amazing!

Back to what we were talking about… those little moments of gratitude, if you turn your whole awareness on them, with do a couple of things. First, if they fill your consciousness, they’ll give you a mini vacation from all the worries of life. Second, you’ll actually change your neural networks, making moments of gratitude more likely to arise spontaneously, making your daily experience a happier, more fulfilling one. So there ya go. Go find something to feel grateful about. You’re awesome. Have an awesome day!

Road and Mountain Biking

If you’d like to go mountain biking, you can head to Syncline with half of Portland. Sandy Ridge is also open. Do not ride Post, because you will damage it. Plus, you’ll not enjoy all the downed trees and branches. In other news, Dry Creek, Osborn, and Carroll are all in amazing shape for dirt roads, and I highly recommend you do some road biking soon.
