Sunday. Snow. Rain. Snow. Snow. Snow. Rainbows.

2015-07-01_14-28-41 M=A R=8 S=4
The ski resorts were beating the forecasts this morning – the sounding model suggested we’d be seeing rain at 6000′ by 4am. That wasn’t happening – at 5am, it started snowing at the resorts, and it was still snowing at 6am. Will it stay snow today? Unlikely. The snow level today will rise to 6000-6500′ by 8am, hold for a few hours, drop to 5500′ by 1pm and 5000′ by 4pm, falling to 3000′ by Monday morning. We’ll see .8” water value (WV) by 4pm, with mixed precip, for 2-4” of new snow. We’ll see .1-.2” WV after 4pm before the sky clears tonight, for 1-2” of new snow. Wind today will be SW 30 during the morning and WSW 25-30 after 4pm. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Tomorrow looks clear to start, cloudy in the afternoon, and snowy after 7pm. Remember that tomorrow night, MLK, Meadows will be open until 9pm with the annual Hood River Rotary fundraiser. You’ll need a special Rotary Night ticket to ride, even if you have a pass. It’s a fundraiser, duh! Anyway, the snow level tomorrow will be 3000′ for much of the day, rising briefly to 5500′ in the afternoon before dropping to 3500′ when the snow hits. We’ll see .3” WV tomorrow night for 2-4” of new snow. Wind Monday will be WSW 30 right off the bat, dropping to light SW for much of the day and picking up to SSW 20 in the afternoon and evening.

Tuesday starts off snowy and becomes very snowy before becoming even snowier. In other words, Tuesday is a storm skier’s day. The snow level Tuesday will be 3000′ all day, perhaps dropping to 2000′ in the evening. If the models are correct, we’ll see 1.2” WV between 4am and 4pm, for 10-14” of new snow. We’ll see another .5”-.7” WV overnight, for another 5-8” of snow. Wind Tuesday will be SW 15-20 all day, rising to W 40 after 7pm.

Wednesday looks like a bluebird powder morning. Warm, wet precip moves in Wednesday night. If the long-range models are correct, we’ll see a warm and wet period through Friday evening, but that’s a long ways out to be predicting.

Random Morning Thoughts

A question came up in one of my classes the other night about what cultural concepts color our experience of the world. These cultural beliefs are unconscious, which makes the attempt to understand their impact a difficult task. We are being asked, in essence to see things that we don’t see.

What cultural expectations color your view of the world? More specifically, what did your family teach you, explicitly or implicitly, about what’s important? My family, for instance, left me with the belief that anyone (myself included) making less than six figures is a failure. I’ll point out here that only 6% of individuals and 20% of households (Quora.com) make that kind of money. I sure as hell don’t make that much, which used to leave me feeling like a failure and now just leaves me laughing.

What did your family teach you, and how does that impact your sense of self worth and self esteem? It’s difficult to bring these beliefs into the life, but by doing so, you’ll free yourself from their implications. If you do some soul searching, you may find beliefs that have a negative impact, and you may find beliefs that have a positive impact. Making the negative beliefs conscious will free you from them, and making the positive beliefs conscious will reinforce them and allow you to share them with your significant others.

Be curious about the beliefs you hold. Being conscious about them will make you more awesome. Have an awesome day.

Road and Mountain Biking

What’s not snowy is muddy, and that includes Syncline, so please leave it alone or you’ll do some major trail damage. What’s not muddy is under snow. Post is snowy starting from the bottom. Your best bet is road biking or gravel grinding.
