Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s Sunday, and we’re looking at more snow falling today and tomorrow. Sadly, we’re likely to see a period of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. If nothing changes, that will be followed by another snow-rain cycle, but there’s less certainty in the extended forecast.

For Sunday, we’ll see the snowfall rate pick up mid-morning and diminish after 4pm. The snow level will be between 2000′ and 3000′ today, dropping as low as 1500′ after midnight. Mt. Hood will see .5” water value (WV) by 4pm, for about 5” of new snow. Up to an inch will fall tonight. Wind will be SW 20 early, SW 40 mid morning, and WSW 30 overnight.

Snowfall continues Monday morning with clear sky late in the afternoon and evening. The snow level will be 1500-2000′ all day. About .3” WV falls, for 3-4” of light powder. Wind will be WSW 30 during the day and SW 15-20 overnight.

Precip starts as snow on Tuesday morning and turns to rain, possibly switching back and forth in the evening. The snow level will be 2000′ early, 6000′ in the afternoon, 5000′ for a period in the evening, and 6000′ overnight. About 1.5” WV falls during the day, with maybe 3-4” of snow followed by 1” rain. Another .6” falls as mixed precip or rain overnight. Wind will be SSW 10-15 early, and SW 30ish for the rest of the day.

Wednesday’s precip amounts and temps really depend on the path of an incoming storm system. The GFS and ECMWF aren’t agreeing on that path at this point, so let’s wait before we make any determination of what will happen. Same thing goes for next weekend – not enough agreement in the models to create a reliable forecast.

Random Morning Thoughts

One of the things that contributes to emotional misery is taking everything seriously all of the time. This is actually rather “normal” – life gets rough, and we forget that life can be fun. We can interrupt this cycle, or at least take a little break, by doing not-serious stuff.

We can watch a movie or a youtube video. We can play with a cat or a dog. We can do silly childish amusing things. I have no idea what that looks like for you, but for me it might include a snowball fight, a bouncing ball, or a cartwheel. It might even giggling at the fact that I’m getting all wrapped up in my thought process.

You’ll probably notice that sometimes you do this with your friends too – you get caught up in the seriousness of their struggles. Ya gotta find a balance – respect the difficult times in life, experience the suffering, but also find a way to get some relief. Take care of yourself, k? Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

White Sprinter Van of the Week

Road and Mountain Biking

Post Canyon is currently closed to all users to protect the trails from damage. Whoopdee is closed to bikes and horses for the same reason. Syncline remains mobbed. I’m not sure about the upper half of Nestor, but the Horse Camp section is in good shape with one tree down.
