Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Last night’s weather didn’t pan out as expected; sadly, the mountain received just a trace to an inch of new snow overnight. With the snowpack saturated and temps set to drop today, that’s going to set us up for a solid-frozen snowpack. Fortunately, there’s snow headed this way for Sunday night. After that, we’re probably looking at a few dry, cold days that will hold the snowpack in a static state.

For Sunday, expect a cloudy day with intermittent snowfall. A compact little low moves in from the central coast to eastern Washington overnight, bringing a steadier round of snowfall. The snow level this morning will be 5000′, dropping to 2500′ in the afternoon and 1500′ overnight. About 0.1” water value (WV) falls during the day, for an inch of snow. Another 0.4-0.7” arrives overnight, for 4-7” of new that finishes up by daybreak. Wind will be SW 15 early, SW 20 later, and W 35 after midnight.

Monday starts with varying levels of clouds and ends up cloudy down low with clear sky above 6500′ or so. The snow level will be 1500′ during the day and 500′ overnight. Just a trace of snow falls curing the day. Wind will be W 35 early, W 10 in the afternoon, and SSW 5-10 overnight.

Tuesday looks cloudy down low with clear sky above 5000′. The free air freezing level will be 500-1000′ during the day and 0-500′ overnight. Models disagree on precipitation. Daytime should be dry. There’s a chance of up to an inch of snow overnight. Wind will be SSW 10 early, SW 5 in the afternoon, and W 5 after midnight. As of right now, the next weather system looks to arrive early in the morning on Friday. That one is forecast to come out of the NW, a good direction for snow on Mt. Hood.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Sunday’s wind starts light and variable. It’ll go to east 20-25 near Rooster and Stevenson midday. Lat this evening, the wind turns around. After 11pm, we’ll have gusty 24-28 from Stevenson all the way east to at least Biggs. Westerlies linger on Monday morning. Stevenson to the Dalles will have 12-15, and areas east of there will have gusty 24-28. The wind holds through late morning and then fades as the next weather system approaches. Afternoon wind looks like 8-11 in the west and 15-18 east of The Dalles. Tuesday brings another round of easterlies: 10-15mph.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.

Hood River Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy day, and it’ll stay that way with a few sprinkles or drizzles. Temps will be in the low 40’s all day. East wind until after dark. No rainbows. Monday looks Cloudy in the morning with sprinkles and mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and low 40’s later. West wind. 98% chance of rainbows. Tuesday will be dry. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and upper 30’s later. Flurries or light snow may arrive overnight. East wind. No rainbows.   Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Road and Mountain Biking

All the rain over the last day has put all the trails in “too muddy to ride” zone. Please, please don’t, or you’ll do permanent damage. Especially vulnerable are those trails that were frozen when the rain arrived; the soil structure is all blown apart, and the tread will be fragile. If you ride it, you will gouge deep ruts that may never recover. Lots of other fun things to do today!
